Working with FTP and USB drive file transfers between Mac OSX (10.6 only) machines. I've noticed that some of my analysis and .tau .psi files have been converted over to Unix exe files. It's not a huge ordeal, Kyma recognizes the .psi and .tau files as they still contain their extensions, but my analysis files are kaput, and without a known extension type, I cannot simply add the extension to the analysis file. I've attempted adding and removing other file extension types, copying file icons! from other Kyma analysis files over to the Unix file icon (which alters the file type to a Kyma doc but Kyma still cannot read the file), and jumping into some Terminal to get at the file type.

As stated before, not a big deal, I have reanalyzed my files for the time being, but since I work with FTP quite a bit, I would like to finger out a work around (without re-analyzing files) if need be. For clarity, I have tested zipped files and unzipped files across FTP. Both have been altered by the Mac, and I'm not sure if it's upon upload or download, nor upon zip or unzip. I've attached one file as reference.

I apologize that I do not have more to go on, but I wanted to inquire if anyone else has run into the same issue(s).

Does your FTP program have a binary transfer setting?

Default transfer mode is binary for FTP (no options for my SFTP), which is its current setting. I can change the mode to Auto or ASCII, which makes available how I wish to convert line endings (Unix, Mac, or Windows).
I am using Cyberduck as my FTP handler, but running different versions on different machines.

When I add the extension .spc to the end of your attached file, it opens in the spectrum editor in Kyma.

(Can you tell your FTP program to ignore extensions and transfer as raw binary?)

I found a solution, but I want to briefly describe the process behind the logic.

I researched two different FTP clients (Cyberduck and Filezilla) to look at the options panel for saving as raw binary, ignoring file type extensions. While both programs offer Binary uploads/downloads, neither offers a solution to non-existent file extensions. Filezilla does have an option "Treat files without extension as ASCII file", which I have deselected. With tests of both clients running Binary type transfers, analysis files are being converted to Document filetypes. Kyma will not recognize unless I append .spc extension.

I then tested the same (pre FTPed) analysis file as a zipped file with Binary uploads/downloads. Both FTP clients seem to handle the zip file fine. I can unzip the file and the file type remains as Kyma Spectrum File. Kid tested, mother approved. Success!

From now on, I will perform my Kyma transfers via FTP as zip files. This does lead me to ask, is appending .spc to spectrum files a working solution to any future file altered to a Unix exe or Document file?

I appreciate all the support. Thanks again.

We've been using Fetch and (on a Macintosh), under the Go menu, if you say connect to Server... it will do FTP to that address)
