I have specified a row of 16 VCS faders for controlling the pitches of a 16-step drum sequence (using the Pitches field of an Analog Sequencer). I also have a Master pitch fader for controlling the overall pitch of that 16-step part. So the Master pitch fader controls the overall pitch, and the individual pitch faders control the relative pitches within the part.

{(1 to: 16) collect: [ itches | pitches / pitches * !KickPitches * (!KickStepPitches suffix2: pitches)]}

What I was wondering is whether there is an expression I could use to reset the 16 pitch faders to a default (or any number of presets) value, with a button for example? Of course I would usually use VCS snapshots, but I have four parts, each with their own pitch, velocity and many other faders and I would like to continue expanding the environment without relying too heavily on static VCS snapshots. Is there a way to do this?

In Max/MSP for example, I would use a Bang connected to a bunch of number boxes, connected to the objects I would like to reset. I am looking for something like that in Kyma.

Thanks in advance...

Jack

ResetFaders.kym

Hi Jack,

The attached is one possibility.

The !Value# faders are normal faders, while the !P# faders are global controllers. When the !FadersOrPreset toggle is off, the !Value# faders control the !P# faders. When that toggle is on, the values are reset.

One thought might be to put *that* set of faders on its own layer of the VCS, having its own presets. That way you could return to default settings by reselecting the preset on that layer. In the future as you add more sets of faders, each set could be on its own layer.

(love the way your array is sticking out its tongue at us :P)

BangToResetFaders.kym

Hi again,

This is probably a little closer to what you were thinking - I changed it so you only have to hit a button named !Bang (obviously, analogous to the bang you described in max) to reset the faders or change presets. Add some more choices in the array and change the countTriggersMod expression to match to have more than one preset that you are toggling between.

Here's another variation on the theme after talking with Jack today: a Sound where you can listen to one bank of faders, set the values of a different bank of faders, change the bank and do a slow transition from one bank to the other. (In this case it is a bank of velocity faders).

great stuff!

very useful in the meantime, until Kyma gets a discrete module/sound that can recall and store presets dynamically under capytalk control...
