Author | Topic: Passing parameters to scripts |

![]() ![]() ![]() I have a number of fairly complicated scripts, mostly of the event-creation ilk, that often have 10 or more parameters. I'd like to make the use of these easier by encapsulating them in some fashion, the most immediate thought being to create a new class by "lifting". Unfortunately my attempts to use "green variables" as the mechanism for passing these parameters has failed. I seem to almost always come up against an incompatibility between the Smalltalk code and the substituting of a "green" where a normal variable was, even if I take pains to make the types capatible (at least I think I am). I've done this in the past in some limited cases but the general approach is illusive. I suspect there is something I am not "getting" or have missed. Even passing simple scalar values as "green variables" creates issues in the Smalltalk code, ones that are often beyond my understanding of the subtleties between Smalltalk and Capytalk. Are there any techniques or object methods to help in this, maybe to coerce one type to another? Doug IP: Logged |
