Hi,

I am not getting any midi in to my unit. I have a Midisport 8X8 midi interface hooked up to my PC and have all my synths, etc, hooked up to it and they all work fine...except the Capybara320. I have the in on the Capy going to the out on the Midisport and the out on Capy going to the in on the Midisport. I also use Cubase and have the correct midi channel selected (1) on the correct port. I have checked midi status in the DSP dropdown menu and there does not seem to be any activity. When I try to play many of the sounds provided that should be able to be played by a midi keyboard..many of the analog exmples....I get nothing...no sound when I try to play. I use my Andromeda as my controller and have it on midi channel 1 as well and set up properly. I am very knowledgeable about midi so this should work. I have also replaced my midi cables and that is not the problem. Am I missing something. I do not want to have to hook my Capy320 direct to the Andromeda and want to go thru my midi interface...this should not be a problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated

"I have checked midi status in the DSP dropdown menu and there does not seem to be any activity. "

This indicates that your MIDI interface is not passing the MIDI along to the Capybara. As a temporary sanity check, you could plug a MIDI kbd directly into the back of the Capy just to test whether your MIDI inputs are physically ok. And you could try plugging a synth into exactly the same output port that you now have the Capy plugged into on your MIDI interface just to check that specific port.

If you don't see anything in the DSP/Configure MIDI/Show MIDI menu, then it means that no MIDI is being sent to the Capybara.

Also, it is possible that Cubase or the MIDI interface patch bay is doing some kind of filtering of the MIDI messages.

The port works fine with other synths. Cubase is only set to filter program changes b/c my Sunsyn will not function properly w/out it. That should not impact anything. I'll try plugging the midi direct from the keyboard into the Capy tonight.

OK, plugged straight into the back of the Capy from the keyboard and all works fine. Why can't I go thru my Midisport? I'd hate to have to get 2 midi merge boxes as a workaround. Like I said I have no probs w/ any of my other gear (5 other ports in use) and the only info filtered in Cubase is program changes. Anyone w/ any experience using the midisport w/ Kyma? Any other suggestions Carla? anyone else? Thanks

Well the good news is that the Capy MIDI-input is working (since you were able to receive MIDI messages directly from a keyboard).

I wonder whether Cubase might be sending a system exclusive message asking all the synths to identify themselves and only sending MIDI out to synths that respond with an ID? One way to check this would be to connect the output of the MIDIsport to the input of one of your synths. Then take the output of the synth's MIDI thru and pass it on to the Capybara. Verify that the synth is getting MIDI and playing, and then see whether the synth passes the MIDI messages along to the Capy. If it does, that would be evidence in support of the idea that Cubase or your software MIDI patchbay is only sending MIDI out to synths it has identified.

Carla,

sysex is filtered as well in Cubase so that cannot be the case. I am pretty sure it is anyways and will check tonight. Thanks
