![]() ![]() ![]() I originally had Digital Performer and Kyma on a single mac. I was using Kyma to record performances sequenced in DP, but I found that if I tried to switch back and forth between DP and Kyma during recording, the recording would end up with some stuttering at the points of the context switches. I now have them on separate macs, which is ok, but one of the machines is a little old. It sounds like Project X with DP for OS/X might allow me to move back to the one mac approach? Or is that over-optimistic? Larry IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Hey Larry! I run Kyma and DP on a single Mac. By "recording performances sequenced in DP" I'm taking this to mean audio recording, right? If so, why not just bounce it down in DP? This is what I do. The recording tool of Kyma is one of its creakier sections and such a general pain I never use it. You are dead on about the program switching problem with Kyma. It probably has to do with RAM or disk buffers and such but the internal recording in DP works so well it's not a problem generally. I mainly use Kyma thru SP/DIF to an ASIO compliant card that hooks into DP so Kyma can be effects processer or sound player/generator. If you are playing back from disk it is important to distribute the disk usage over different disks so as not to overload one disk. Then after a bounce if I want the audio further processed in Kyma I either stream the mix tracks back into the program or bring them in thru the Sound Browser. Hope this helps. Best regards. ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks. Any card recommendations? I have considered that approach but I don't have much experience as to what really works well (low noise etc. (BTW anyone else find the G4 tower standard audio much noisier than previous macs)) and I was hoping to avoid the cost of a separate card if the OS/X version might solve it. I'm guessing that the problem is that MacOS freezes at least some processes when you pull down a menu and I've heard OS/X is somewhat better-behaved in this regard. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Well, I'm using a Korg OASYS card which I LOVE dearly. Unfortunately, Korg didn't feel similarly so it's a very happening, unsupported, dead product. If you are planning on staying with DP then DP hardware is my first recommendation. The 828 looks nice as it's firewire and has zero latency monitoring like the OASYS, which is nice for recording workflow. You could just get some bare bones PCI card with digital I/O so you can avoid the built-in Mac I/O which I would never really recommend to anyone. I'd be happy to discuss further but perhaps you should reply privately as we may be straying from Kyma topicality ;-) IP: Logged |
