Dear fellow Kyma users,

I am proudly announcing OSCulator 1.4.
To download it, please visit my website here.

What's new?
Many new things:

- Keystrokes
It is now possible to generate keyboard strokes from OSC messages. It means you can control your macintosh keyboard with OSC messages. For each entry in the action list, simply assign the correct keycode corresponding to the key you want to strike. To find a keycode, use the Keycode Helper panel (shortcut: ?K) and strike the key you desire.
For this new feature, a great Lemur layout with a QWERTY keyboard has been offered by Edmund Eagan. Other contributed layouts are welcome!

- Virtual MIDI input
On launch, OSCulator creates a virtual MIDI input, named “OSCulator”. You can use this input in other MIDI enabled applications to send MIDI data to the Flame. For example you can send MIDI events to the Flame from Live, Pro-Tools or Logic with greater precision than the physical MIDI port.

- Copy & Paste
You can now copy and paste OSC actions between windows.

- Open last documents
On quit OSCulator remember the last documents opened and reopens them on future launch. This is useful when you always use the same documents.

- Optimized Flame driver and various optimizations
The Flame firewire driver has been much optimized for greater precision, and protection.
Optimization have been brought to the activity monitor lights too: if a greater time precision is required, it is possible to disable the activity monitors and save some cpu time. This is useful for computers with only one processor, and is not recommended for user with multiple cpus (newer machines).

Please, if you use this software consider making a donation!
And thanks to all those who helped me on this project!!!

Best Regards,
Cam

Hi Camille, I was wondering if it's possible to route MIDI from Kyma back through OSCulator to an OSC app/Lemur etc. ?

Sorry if I've already asked this question

Thanks!

Hi Jack, do you have a physical MIDI input to your Mac?

Hi Jack,

No this is not possible.
But the Lemur has a MIDI input, you can use a MIDI cable between the Capybara and the Lemur.

Best,
Camille

Yes, I have a standalone MIDI interface, and I often use it to route MIDI to Kyma and back, but I recently joined an experimental ensemble and we'll be rehearsing at another studio so I'm looking for a way to minimize the amount of gear I have to carry around with me

Ideally it would be just my laptop, Kyma and a Lemur... I have the feeling I'd already asked Camille if it's possible to route MIDI back from Kyma via OSCulator, but I wanted to double check, seeing as there have been some software updates etc.

It's so great that Camille has developed OSCulator, I love the idea of the Flame as a bridge between OSX and Kyma, obviating the need for so many physical cables/hardware. I think OSCulator has massive potential, it would be amazing if it could handle audio streams as well as full MIDI/OSC.

In my books, Kyma is the best overall package of the modular bunch, Max/MSP, Reaktor etc. But one thing I feel it really misses is that tight integration with OSX that you get with Max/MSP for example. The work Camille's doing using the Flame as a bride is a big step in the right direction, imho

Cheers...
