ok.. i cannot get the AV/C to do anything

maybe i'm going about it all wrong....

the AV/C needs to be used with the kyma. correct?

i cannot just select the capy as my outputs and have it play.. i have to use the SamplesFromExtrnalSource, right? (i think so, so far)

so, i load up cubase SX3, choose the capy as my audio device in the prefs, choose outputs 1 and 2 in cubase, play a sound file in loop.
now, i goto kyma, open up and run SamplesFromExternalSource (with the channel being '1') and nothing exciting happens. i just get a clicking. no audio

am i doing it wrong? or?
thx for the help

Hi!

Here are some advices you can try :

  • check in the Audio MIDI Setup application that your Capybara is there.
  • i am not sure, but I have seen that it was better to start the sound in Kyma first, and then the sequencer, than to start the audio sequencer first and the Kyma.
  • if you have other FireWire devices : you should first with the Capybara alone in the FireWire chain. A hard disk drive should not cause any problem, while a FireWire audio card can be a source of conflicts.
  • a last thing : if because of a bad instruction, the CoreAudio server can be corrupted, if this is the case, no audio will ever go through the Capybara, then you will have to restart your computer. Similarly the Flame interface can be stucked (but it has been only the case twice for me), then it is easier, you just have to turn it off and on and then plug the FireWire interface back.

Hope it helps ...

to use the sound, yes, you have to have kyma launched an a sound loaded that includes the "fromExternalSources" object. i created a basic set of prototypes for stereo and multi-channel operation, i'll post them up to tweaky when I return from holiday.

it sounds like you are close on to getting it working, a couple things to note:

make sure cubase is internally at 44.1, as is the settings under coreaudio audiomidi settings. you may have to set all these to 44.1, save the state, and then restart kyma.

you may have to power cycle the flame. if for example, i get get the capy to play sounds normally but the coreaudio aspect just clicks, a powercycle of the flame and restarting kyma is in order.

never plug in or power up a firewire device after starting up the kyma. at least on my powerbook, this resets the port and requires me quitting kyma and then powercycling the flame before it works again as a coreaudio device.

for me, it doesn't seem to matter the order the applications are launched in. however, my habit is to launch kyma, load the sound, launch itunes, check to see that it is streaming audio correctly, and then launch logic.
