Hello,

I have tried to make a very simplistic synth by combining an sine Oscillator and a AR in the Enveloppe field.

I saw that if I used only the left input of AR (in the Enveloppe field, I have "[AR] L"), I can hear strange artefacts in the transient parts of the wave, whereas the static is OK. I have digitally recorded the S/PDIF output and noticed in the sound editor that the wave is modulated by something like a scale ramp.

On the other hand, if the Enveloppe field of the Oscillator contains the pasted Enveloppe Generator "[AR]" only (without the 'L' letter), the sound is OK. I don't see what makes the difference because the output of the Oscillator is mono and the Enveloppe input is mono too.

So here are my questions:
- Can someone explains me this behavior?
- Is there a general rule of thumb knowing when to use L, R or none besides a "pasted" sound?
- How can I know that a sound doesn't perform correctly when waveform are not as pure as a sinewave? I mean, how can I know that I am doing something wrong?

Cheers & thank you for your help!
Cam

Hi Cam

You have fallen on the exeption to the rule. In Kyma all hot parramittor fields get refreshed at midi rate 1KHz and all pasted sounds into a hot parramittor fields need either an "L" or "R". This 1KHz rate is why you get the stair caseing modulation on the output.

But there is (up till now) one exception to this rule and that one exception is the Envelope field in the oscilator module. In this field you can paste a sound with out an L or an R and it will work at full sample rate. But note that if you do use this feature you can not add any additional formular in the field. This was the only field in any of the modules on the whole of Kyma with this feature, but now some of the fields in the new VCF module that have got this feature as well.

If this feature wasn't there you would have had to put both the output of the oscilator and the output of the AR modules into the input of a product module to get the same full sample rate control.

hope this makes sence

Pete
