stupid question:
It's okay to use the Flame on a FireWire 800 port (using a 400/800 adapter cable), right?

IIRC Yes but the disclaimer is it requires a specific cable. I think some cables are not manufactured to the spec that ssc requires for their hardware.

Thanks! So it's not completely sure...
Well, I won't have a Firewire 400 Port in the future, but would rather not throw away my Capybara ;-)

I'd need a Firewire 800 male to Firewire 400 female adapter cable then...

I'm using the flame with a FireWire 800 port on an iMac. Usually without problems although sometimes the Capybara does need to restart - this however might well be down to the sounds rather than the use of the Firewire 800 port.

Cool, thanks.
So it's safe to do this.

I'm not using an adapter - just a single cable which has a Firewire 800 connector on one end and Firewire 400 on the other.

Hi I just got a new macbookpro with no firewire ports at all any more, just thunderbolts.

I bought the thunderbolt to firewire converter and then went 800 -> 400 into the flame interface but when i start Kyma it doesn't recognise that it is plugged in....

Has anyone managed to successfully connect their capybara to the new mac's using thunderbolt? It seems like I now own a really expensive and powerful paper weight otherwise

Yes, people have been successfully using the Apple Thunderbolt-FW adapter with the Capybara, so something else must be going on. Do you have another 400-800 cable so you could try swapping it out with your current cable?

With everything connected and switched on please go to the Apple menu, About this Mac, more info. Then File save the system profile and send it to us by email. This may give some additional clues. Thanks!
