I'd like to control Kyma with a higher bandwidth and smoother protocol than midi. Do you have any plans like this? Possibly CNMAT's "Open Sound Control" protocol?

Hi Chris,

Yes, it is possible to have faster and higher resolution control over the the parameters than MIDI is capable of providing. You can talk directly to the Capybara driver from your own software. For example, Lippold Haken uses this method to have his Continuum fingerboard control Kyma parameters (since MIDI would not provide enough bandwidth for the continuous pitch, pressure, and "timbre" from 10 fingers, at least not at the resolution that he requires).

So how is this done? I have long wanted to make available direct-to-Kyma modules in my SoftStep software, to replace the MIDI modules when Kyma is available.

We would like to make a sample C application for people to use as a starting point for controlling Kyma Sounds from their applications. This is on the list, but it will probably be a few more weeks before we can get to it.

Could this for instance, after some firm programming, lead to a Kyma control object in Max?

We used to have this working with an old version of Opcode Max (2.0?). We would be happy to donate the Max object source code to anyone who would like to rewrite (and support) it for newer versions of Max. (We would like to make the driver examples first, though, so you have an example to work from.)

I would very (VERY!) much like to see the Max-Kyma object brought to life again. Unfortunately, my programming skills, well, suck.

Anyone who´d like to do the Max thing? Would be eternally grateful, and then some.
