I am looking to get a new audio interface for my Pacarana. I am using a motu 828 for my DAW audio interface currently. Can I use another MOTU firewire interface for the Pacarana at the same time?

On a Macintosh, there would be only a single MOTU driver, so the Macintosh would take over both converters. However, under Windows, you could disable the driver for the second MOTU, allowing the Pacarana to control it.

Shucks. I'm on a Mac. Recommendations for a cheap interface with ADAT 8 channel IO?

I have an 828mkIII and an Ultralite mkIII both controlled on my mac. I can use them together as an aggregate device.

[edited changed to 24D]
For the pacarana I have a TC Electronic Konnekt 24D dedicated.

This is connected to my 828 via Optical

828 is master clock for all.

Works pretty well

I use TC Electronic 24D connected to my Pacarana which is then connected via the ADAT optical to my audio interface (a Saffire 40) and into the computer. No troubles at all.

I'm sorry to say the Konnekt 8 doesn't have optical ADAT out. That is the interface I am replacing because it only has digital SPDIF stereo.

TC Konnekt Impakt twin seems to be a good alternative for getting 8 channels of digital I/O. My only concern is there is no WC in.

Ah, I told you the wrong model. Mine is a 24D. Sorry bout that.

Do you need WC in? Clocking the Konnekt 24D with the optical in, generated by the 828 mkIII.

Not sure if I need WC in. I am clocking my MOTU with an external clock because when I try to clock my eventide through SPDIF, the clock wavers and produces digital hashing noises. If I am clocking the motu with an external clock; 1. Will it pass through to the TC Konnekt through ADAT? 2. Will it be stable?

I'm on mac, using a MOTU 828 mk2 for DAW and MOTU 828 mk3 for Pacarana,
no problems at all.
the cabling is: mac book pro---Pacarana---Motu,
Thats why the mk3 only shows up, when pacarana is powered on. it is available to use as interface in DAW programs and so on, but i didn't try out if that would lead to problems..i guess so, but anyways. Max MSP reports "WARNING: an audio device has been Added or removed" when i switch on my pacarana, but actually that also doesn't lead to further problems. of course, i can't guarantee anything.
Mac OS 10.6.4, newest Motu Drivers.
