I've noticed a problem with the FM prototype used straight out of the prototypes window.
A 510Hz sawtooth signal is generated when you modulate the !MI hotvalue (mp3 of the recording is attached along with screenshots of the waveforms). This issue is unfortunately getting in my way of using Kyma for my current project and I've tried all kind of smoothing on the parameters but nothing seems to solve the problem.

Has anyone managed to fix it?

Hi Jed

FM has to be modulated at sample rate. Capytalk will update only at control rate (1 Khz) and will give a buzz at 500 hz ish (half capytalks sample rate). The MI hot value is only there to vary the level (or to set the maximum swing) of the true modulating input signal (which is a signal generating module like an oscillator, that you drag into the modulation field). Module to module connections work at full sample rate, !Hot parramitors do not, as they work at 1 kHz.

hope this makes sense.

Pete

Problem is the 'L' in the Envelope field. Instead of

( [LFO] L + !MI) smoothed

in the Envelope field, paste a Mixer with: LFO & Level (with Linear interpolation checked). Set the Left and Right fields to: !MI smoothed. If you are using an audio rate Sound instead of !MI, paste that Sound into the Left and Right fields (and remove the 'L' that is automatically pasted after it).
Feeding the Level, use Constant with 1 as its value.

When you paste this Mixer into the Envelope field, it may "helpfully" add an 'L' after the Sound; if so you should delete the L.

This should get rid of the zippering at half the control rate.

(Alternatively, you could multiply the Modulator by the Mixer described above. In that case, you would set the Modulator envelope value to 1).

Thank you everyone for helping, I didn't know hot parameters operated at 1KHz, that makes a lot of sense now! I can finally use it and have some fun. Cowabunga!
