Author | Topic: Help : Paca setup with Konnekt 8 |
ATS Member |
![]() ![]() ![]() Hi all, I finally got my hands on a Paca and Konnekt 8, but have spent many hours now trying to get them to play nicely in my setup without much success. Could anyone help? I'm not sure what else to try. My current setup is : Mac Pro 8-core -> Apogee Ensemble (main interface) Ensemble <---> Konnekt8 (spdif i/o)
Sound comes through, but is frequently dropping out. The dropouts seem to be entirely on the Konnekt/Kyma's SPDIF input. The Konnekt is set up to sync to the SPDIF clock of the Ensemble. I have tried multiple pairs of SPDIF cables, and have followed the Konnekt series setup directions from the Symbolic Sound website as thoroughly as possible. I have run this sort of setup with other audio interfaces/computers before with no problems. Thoughts?
p.s. - I'm not sure there is anything more torturous than having a new piece as powerful as the Paca in front of me and not being able to use it! IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() I forgot to mention that the drop coincide with a message in Kyma's DSP Status box that flashes "OUT OF REALTIME" along with the drops. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Please try starting Kyma with without Preferences in case there is an incompatible setting. To do this, put the caps lock key down before starting Kyma and answer yes to the question about whether you'd like to start without the Preferences. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Thank you for the advice, but no luck yet! ![]() I did what you suggested and encountered the following : - Kyma Software boots OK - click "reload" - Hard restart

![]() ![]() ![]() First, could you please get the latest version (Kyma 6.73) from tweaky. Then let's try to simplify the set up so we can isolate the problem. Could you please try connect it as Please completely disconnect the Ensemble from the FireWire bus for this test. Thanks. [This message has been edited by SSC (edited 22 December 2009).] IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Hi, OK, I have set it up as you have requested with the Ensemble disconnected, and the latest update/firmware on the Paca. I loaded Kyma with the preferences ignored and set the Konnekt8 in the Status window with the clock set to Internal. I am having no problem using the analog outs. Where next, Doc? IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Good, ok, next step would be to power down, connect Ensemble to the Mac Pro 400 port (leaving the Paca connected to the Mac 800 port). And make sure the Mac+Ensemble audio sounds good and that the Kyma/Paca/Konnekt analog continues to work correctly. (For the moment, hold off on reconnecting the S/PDIF so we can reintroduce one element at a time, ok?) Thanks! [This message has been edited by SSC (edited 22 December 2009).] IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Hi again. I just got a chance to try this and yes, everything works nicely. The problem definitely seems to lie within the SPDIF. Hmmm.... ? IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() OK, good, we are narrowing in on it then. What does the Ensemble say is its clock source? IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Hi again. The Ensemble's clock is set to internal with Sample Rate Conversion set to "none" (because I'm running everything at 24/44) The Konnekt8 is set at Clock:SPDIF and 44.1khz. I have double checked this both in the Kyma Status window and when running the TC Near control panel before uninstalling it. I even reinstalled it to check those settings again. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() OK, then could you please start from everything being shut down. Then: * Start audio converters * Start Mac * Power up Pacarana by pressing front panel touch strip * Then start up Kyma If necessary, select Konnekt8 as your audio I/O. If the problem occurs, please create a debug log and email it to us at support@symbolicsound.com. (To create a debug log, hold down shift+ctrl and then select DSP Status from the DSP menu and say that you would like to save the file). Thanks! IP: Logged |
