Author | Topic: Continuum firewire control possible with Paca/rana? |

![]() ![]() ![]() Hello and merry Christmas everyone, Is it still possible to control Pacarana via the (old) continuum firewire port? Also, what are your thoughts on the handling of continuum's Pitch bend data?, the way Kyma reacts to my continuum via the firewire port is so vastly superior to any other plug-in or application that i tend to think this must be due to bigger bandwidth and higher speed of the firewire bus? Thanks, Han Otten IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Yes, you can control the Paca(rana) with a FireWire Continuum! The FireWire Continuum uses a protocol that we jointly developed with Lippold about 10 years ago. In this protocol, high resolution note information is sent with 16 bits of fractional pitch (1/65536th of a half step resolution), along with 11 bits of volume (1 part in 2048 resolution) and 11 bits of timbre (1 part in 2048 resolution). ![]() ![]() ![]() Ok, thanks for the quick answer! One step closer to getting a Pacarana... So how does the speed of the firewire connection compare to Midi? Thanks again, Han IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Hi Han, We have a FireWire Continuum so we haven't had a chance to compare it against a MIDI Continuum. Maybe someone who has tried both can give you an answer to that one? IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() I would say that the new Midi implementation is equal to the older Firewire implementation. I've owned a Firewire Continuum with a Capybara, and now have a new Midi Continuum with the new Pacarana, using a Konnekt 24D for Midi and audio IO. Subjectively the new works equally well as the old. No jitter and very low latency (as good as it gets). Carla and Kurt have worked with Lippold in making the Midi implementation on the Pacarana work seamlessly with the Continuum, as it does through FireWire on the Capybara and the Pacarana. BTW the Pacarana is awesome, if you're on the fence about it. And it's getting better with each new frequent Kyma release. IP: Logged |
