It would be really nice to be able to use the buttons on my Wacom Intuos 3. Is there any hope for support for that someday?

If I assign them to generate specific ASCII key strokes in the Wacom Preferneces Panel, I can use them in MAX by simply using the "key" object and detecting those key numbers.

If there was a Kyma Sound or CapyTalk expression that would return the ASCII key number, I could do the same thing there.

I have a nifty MAX patch that converts the buttons and the scroll strip into MIDI CC messages, but it would be nice to have it all work in one environment.

Hi Bill

You can do this in OSCulator - ie. use Wacom pref. panel to assign key shortcuts and then assign them to event names in Kyma. Otherwise yes Max is the best alternative, and although I use Max/MSP/Jitter a lot, I really prefer to use only Kyma when I can, and OSCulator certainly help with that aim.

BTW when I use Max now I send everything out as OSC, through OSCulator, which means all the incoming data is going into Capy through one pipe

Cheers, Garth

I'm not sure I understand - the Wacom buttons can be programmed to send keystrokes - e.g. letters. How does OSCulator receive these events? My Wacom isn't Bluetooth.

Hi Bill

The current version of OSCulator can read keystrokes and send them out as OSC messages or MIDI message - best to download it and check it out - it is OSX only from memory

Hi Bill,

Unfortunately no, OSCulator can not "read" keystrokes but rather "send" them to applications (keystroke combos can also be sent).
I was thinking about adding support for Wacom tablets right into OSCulator, not to compete with the great Kyma implementation, but rather to provide OSC users a simple way to use a Wacom tablet. It will support the tablet's buttons and bands as well.
In the meantime, I would suggest you use Max to convert the tablet's events in OSC and then use OSCulator to send them to Kyma. I think that is something rather easy to do if you are already familiar with Max.

Best,
Camille

wooopppssss.... sorry Bill and Camille - I should have looked more carefully - I thought what I said above was correct, but as I do not use this function, had not taken the time to check it out. Sorry for any confusion - careless of me

So looks like Max --> OSCulator --> Kyma as per usual

Cheers, Garth
