Here is a Kyma version of the Eventide DSP-4000 patch called "Pitch+Time Manifold". It is basically two pitch shifts with delay lines, plus another delay line, with a variety of feedback paths. I duplicated the patch as closely as possible, including duplicating all of the controls.

This Sound uses non-harmonic analysis/resynthesis for the pitch shifters and it is very power hungry - it requires a 320/8 DSP system. You could probably squeeze it onto a 320/4 by reducing the number of oscillators in the oscillatorBanks (with a loss in fidelity), or by removing one pitch shifter altogether.

Hey, Neat! Bill!

When you say that the Eventide can handle up to 8 voices at once, do you mean that it performs 8 independent pitch shiftings? Or does it shift all 8 by the same amount?

In the first case I don't understand how they could sift apart 8 different pitch classes (harmonics of the fundamentals) unless these were so well separated and had no commensurate harmonics between them -- that sounds very difficult to do.

But, I'll await your answer here. I have never used the Eventide unit. It does strike me that a lot of standalone, single function, boxes can outperform the Kyma system. So no doubt we pay some price for the flexibility of routing and the diverse set of capabilities in the Kyma/Capybara. But even so, the closest thing I have ever seen to the Kyma system is the Lake Technologies system. And that one is exceedingly expensive, focuses mainly on convolution, and is not nearly as flexible as a Kyma system.

No, I mean that it can take a single input and produce up to eight different pitch-shifted outputs simultaneously.

I'm not sure how often one would want or need to do that, but the point is, I'm doing good to get 2 or 3 medium-fidelity pitch-shifts simultaneously on a 320/8.

I haven't had a chance to check out the new "Eclipse", but it is a new price/performance point for Eventide and they're selling a lot of them. You might want to check it out. I sometimes use my DSP-4000 in a Kyma "effects loop" - digital send and return on 3 & 4 - for reverb or pitch shifting.

Hi Bill,

I just looked at their Web site for the Eclipse... The algorithm manual has lots of juicy ideas to try out on Kyma. But then I checked Sweetwater for pricing and it blew me out of the saddle... This stuff is definitely pro-audio for you rich radio producer types!
