Hi,

I just noticed that using a negative frequency in a sample prototype causes the loop not to play if "SetLoop" is set to off. Is there a reason for this? I tried changing Start to 1 and End to 0, but that didn't fix it.

thanks,
Phil

Doesn't play at all? or doesn't loop? (If you want it to play through once per trigger without looping, you could instead check the Reverse checkbox)

If I take a sample prototype and set frequency to "default * -1" and uncheck "SetLoop," it doesn't make any sound at all. But if I set "Start" to !Start, when I move the !Start fader, it does make some noise, so something seems to be playing.

I'm not using the "Reverse" checkbox because I want to be able to able to change the direction of playback dynamically (via something like "default * (!Toggle * -2 + 1)" - though, interestingly, if I use that expression it does work, but in an unexpected way: everytime I toggle the !Toggle it relaunches the file - but if I save the default preset with !Toggle on, when the sound launches the file doesn't play).

Could you use the looping version but just control the duration of the trigger and decay time so you get a single shot through the sample?

That would seem to be a possibility, but in the case where a sample is triggered and starts out playing in one direction, and then in the course of playback is caused to switch directions, the total length of time for the sample playback would not be predictable.
