Hi,

Does anybody here maybe have some experience in using the position of the mouse (x/y-coordinates) to control audio?
I might need this for a multi-media-demo, but don’t have any experience with this kind of “controlling” so far. I am wondering what would be the easiest way to translate those coordinates in a way that would allow you to use it for MIDI/Audio? It is probably somewhat optimistic to assume that there are standard converters out there on the market for this kind of conversions, or are there? Does anybody know?
Best,
Florian

MAX/MSP will allow you to do this. (Mac only.)

Logic Audio has a Vector object available in the Logic environment which you could use to output MIDI into Kyma via a mouse. The MIDI values from the Vector are scaled so that no matter the size of the Vector object - the full range of 0 - 127 is available.

There are several mouse-to-MIDI programs. You might take a look at: http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/audio/mousemod.htm
and http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Network/4957/midimouse.html
and http://www.sonicspot.com/ccmouse/ccmouse.html

I've used one of these (I can't recall which) with good results.

But what I REALLY like is to use my Palm's touchscreen as an X-Y MIDI CC. Palm to MIDI adapters are fairly inexpensive (mine was $30 USD). I use two Palm programs, Meedy and Theremidi, which are basically X-Y controllers. I can find used Palms quite cheaply, too, say $50-30 USD. And you can use multiple Palms for multiple simultaneous X-Y controllers.

Hope this helps.

Hi Bill, Pho, Dennis,

many thanks for your help.
Unfortunately MAX is no alternative anymore, since the platform for the
showcase is already chosen (pc), or is there a version out for the pc
now (i didn't follow the latest developments)?
I assume the other possible solutions are easier for my special situation. I already downloaded those freeware programs and look forward to work with them.
But, is it not possible at all (in theory) to do this directly with a script module in kyma? Is smalltalk as a programming language to much high-level for this translation?
Thanks + Best,

flor
