I like the look of the Wacom tablet.

Does anyone have a model recommendation? Also, does anyone recommend a good site that sells that model cheaply?

Personally I like the Intuos models because you have more degrees of control from the pen. I use the medium size. (From my point of view, the smallest one feels too small for regular mousing, and the larger ones take up too much space in my studio, but I have seen some dramatic live performances using the larger tablets).

The Intuos5 supports finger touch as well as Pen/Eraser. Does Kyma recognize/support this?

I believe that finger touches are interpreted as mouse controls, and pen movements as sound parameter controls.

Yeah, Intuos5 looks great, but a bit on the expensive side. I'm happy to buy on if it's worth it. The cheaper models like bamboo don't have pressure sensitivity, but my understanding of Intuos is that it is sensitive to how hard you press the pen down. This would mean that you get X,Y,Z modulation as opposed to X,Y modulation. This makes it somewhat similar to the Haken Continuum in that sense.

Can I confirm that Kyma will take advantage of the pressue sensitivity?

Yes, Kyma utilizes !PenZ (for pressure) along with !PenX, !PenY (and !PenTilt, !PenAngle, etc)

OK. So the Intuos5 comes in to two varieties. Touch and non-touch. The touch is a bit more expensive. My understanding is that touch means that it supports multi-touch. Does Kyma take advantage of this? Should I bother with the touch option?

Kyma supports multitouch on the iPad, but not on the Intuos.

Thanks.

Kyma supports OSC right? I would have thought that if Kyma talked to OSC, the underlying hardware - whether it be intuos, iPad, or Haken continuum would be irrelevant.

I would have thought that if there is an OSC driver for the Intuos out there, it could potentially support Intuos' multi touch feature which would mean that Kyma would response to the OSC signal as opposed to directly communicating with the tablet, and therefore allow for multi touch. Is there an OSC driver out there for the Intuos? Am I making sense?

Here's the protocol that Kyma expects to see for OSC:

http://www.symbolicsound.com/Learn/OpenSoundControlDocumentation

I know that http://OSCulator.net sends OSC from the Wacom but do not know whether Camille has implemented multi touch for the Wacom(?)

Robin Godefroid, Rudi Giot & Jacques Tichon presented a paper on Skemmi and the Open Interface Workbench for interfacing virtually any controller with Kyma via OSC (video of their presentation here: http://ssc-media.com/Movies/KISS2012/RudiGodefroidTichonOpenInterfaceKyma.mov)

Otherwise, if you want a multitouch controller that works without additional programming, you could try one of the Delora iPad apps (http://delora.com) or the Kyma Control app (http://www.symbolicsound.com/Products/KymaControl).

Actually, after some messing around today. I'm inclined to use my iPhone instead of buying a wacom tablet now. OSC wasn't as hard to get set up as I thought. OSCulator isn't even necessary. I got multi-touch working straight away.

So, all I did was:

-Plug my paca in to the network
-Install TouchOSC on my iPhone (TouchOSC recognised my Paca as an OSC host straight away)
-Create a template with two X/Y pads side by side
-Mapped the 4 parameters from said template to 4 parameters of a sound (in my case TAU morph parameters)

So, I can change 4 elements of a sound with my thumbs only.

So, this leads me to slipstick synthesis with OSC from my iPhone. I'll post this as a separate question.

PS: From what I can tell of the Delora app, it is very limited. It seems to send midi CC messages but only uses a set number of faders. You can't do any X/Y stuff.
