![]() ![]() ![]() I have a new PC heading my way preloaded with Windows Vista 32 Buisness. Not that I need to (Kyma's running perfectly fine on all my current machines), but what would happen if I tried installing Kyma on it? You can laugh at me, but I think I like the aero look! It just might inspire me... I thought all those prototypes would like nice in a shadowy translucent window. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Sounds harsh... I have been reading a lot from nay-sayers! But considering a lot of the processing done in Kyma is via the outboard dsp, I didn't think the OS would be too crippling in this case... I understand that Vista is a lot less efficient (and there's the whole driver signing deal), but computers are shipping with more RAM and better processors these days. My Vista laptop provided to me by my job has been nothing but rock solid (granted I don't use it much for music). As a converted Mac user, I may be part of a serious minority that actually enjoys the gui too. Recently, all the key stuff I've been using and holding out for has become Vista compatible (my Lynx AES 16 - awesome companion to Kyma!, my waves plug-ins, and Reaper from Cockos). I didn't intend to debate the crappyness vs merits of Vista. I totally agree that my Apple and XP machines are currently kicking butt. But I like keeping things fresh and something as simple as a shiny new interface can make me smile... Won't people have to jump on the Vista wagon sooner or later or is XP here to stay for all eternity? I'd rather get familiar with Vista now so I can know my stuff. So, any actual news on compatibility? Or does this require a ton of work from the SSC crew? If there are any key blockades to this process, I'd be curious to hear why just for my own education... Happy New Years! :-) IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Hi Lowell, We don't anticipate any problems but we have not had a chance to test it out here yet. If you (or anyone reading this) has a chance to give it a try, please let us know. If not, then we will get to it soon and make a report. Thanks! IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks! I get the new computer Monday so I'll let you know how it goes... I'm surprised that I may be the first person to go down this road! The old saying often rings true - if it aint broke, don't fix it - but we'll see. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() I recently installed Vista and I LOVE the way you can monitor system performance, so much that I consider to keep it installed! However, I had so many problems with drivers compatibilty, the list is too long but includes my main soundcard RME Digi96/52 and 8X8 midi interface. No midi nor sound for a start!!! I don't know anybody who is doing music with vista yet. I don't say I'll stay with XP forever. but I prefer to wait until others did the beta test ![]() (My main studio computer was on 98se until last october!!) IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Success! Kyma runs flawlessly in Vista Business 32... so far. It wasn't 100% straight forward - it took me an extra little bit of time to make sure the drivers loaded properly. Kyma couldn't find it's hardware until I went in to the device manager and pointed the devices ('Kyma Firewire Flash Update Port' and 'Kyma FireWire Interface' under the SPB2 IEEE 1392 Devices section) to the drivers on the original CD. The 'found new hardware' process dropped the ball... I had a busy week, but finally found some time on a Sunday. Kyma DOES look great with the Aero look! (I know no-one else cares) IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() OpenGL uses the Aero look? You're gonna be our Beta tester then ![]() [This message has been edited by KX (edited 14 January 2008).] IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Well... not exactly. But the menu bars and window borders are nice and rounded! ;-) The mouse arrow 'changes forms' as you move from the vista elements to the contents of the kyma windows. Still looks good though and still no issues. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Do you run other hardware/software? IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Sure- not a long list though I have a waves Gold Bundle/GTR 3 working just fine in Reaper v2.031 with a LYNX AES-16 PCI card. That's all I've gotten around to installing aside from Kyma so far (and I'm really liking the native 'jesusonics' plugins in Reaper right now). I'm not that big on purchasing software that I can't migrate with easily from system to system. I just happen to be using all pro-Vista stuff. I also have an Edirol PCR-300 USB Keyboard and an Edirol UM-3EX 3 I/O USB MIDI interface I just got (to replace my one piece of non compatible gear - emagic AMT 8). I'm light on software, but I got some pedals and outboard stuff I like too (as if Kyma wasn't enough on it's own). Aside with some issues getting the Lynx to work, nothing has crashed yet... An Intel Q35 board has everything I needed for a decent music system built-in and is pretty easy to work with if you don't need heavy duty graphics processor. IP: Logged |
