DJ Paca(rana) needs your sounds!

There are plans afoot for Kyma to be controlling an automated DJ set as background ambience for the opening night of the Kyma International User Symposium in Barcelona this October.

I would like to call for submissions of recorded sounds and textures, sketches and ambiences created on your Kyma system, as source files for the Kyma sound that will be segueing them together. The recordings should have been made exclusively with Kyma Their duration can be very short but should be no longer than 5 minutes. They can be multichannel or stereo, and should be submitted in 16 bit, 44.1K WAV or AIFF. Especially interesting are sound design sketches, ambiences or loops that you may have archived on your drives - soundfiles that are interesting in their own right and perhaps just waiting for further development, or composition.

The only criteria used for selection will be a random number stream, seeded from "0.8102009".

Please upload files to my dropbox http://dropbox.yousendit.com/cristianvogel493498

PS. I have only received 3 files so far!! Don't be shy, any sound design, or textures will do fine, and you can submit more than one thing of course

i love this idea and would love to contribute!

are you looking for sounds exclusively created in kyma from start to finish? for instance, are we allowed to gather some field recordings and then use kyma as the sole manipulator, or are we restricted to only starting with the kyma sound generators?

also, what is the submission deadline?

cheers and great project for those of us who can't make it this year

SOunds that you feed to your capy or paca are open to be whatever audio... If Kyma is processing or analysing this of course.

What will sound good will be anything from the huge spectrum of computer music that Kyma is capable of. So I dont want to restrict to structure or length really. Sound design will be just as good as textural ambiences or Kyma generated structure algorithms. I think it will make sense all together if Kyma is behind the composition and/or synthesis, audio triggering, treatment, processing etc at some point in the creation of the sound recording. Surprises are welcome!

As of now, I think I need more sound, to reach the correct level of depth on the night! Keep them coming...

I have some stuff I could send you, although would find it easier to put it onto a DVD and post it. If interested, please could you email me an address to post it to. Thank you.

Hi Christian,

I sent a piece that I did in 2006. It's a collage of processed and unprocessed sounds that I recorded on vacation in Austria and Hungary. The title "Descendent" has two meanings: My great grandfather emigrated to Canada from Hungary in 1900, and the piece includes a descent inside a minaret in Eger.

Hi Cristian,

I'm sending a video now - you can excerpt the audio if you want for the meet and greet if you like, but it would really be cool if you could find the time to show it at some point (if not, I'll post a link on the forum later). It's what I'd present if I were able to be there this week.

Hopefully it is self-explanatory. It's a screen grab movie of my latest project, which is a graphic interface in Processing that sends OSC to Kyma. I just presented it in Long Beach this last weekend. What is being controlled isn't always obvious, so I put some cheesy iMovie titles in to explain a bit.

I hope you like it.

Thanks and have fun,
Phil
