Hi Kymaland,

i'm a beginner with Kyma and i'm still having some difficulty to use it for severals uses.
First , i'm usually transform reel sounds and i haven't many knowledge with synth,etc....
I've already make greats thinks with RE for transform voices, i'm also using the "slave to" fonction of the timeline to make incredible arithmic sound ( heart, wind, ...) but i'm little bit
lost when i want to transform a wav sound....
When i try something , i'm quickly lost in all the prototypes, presets,...
I must indicate, if necessary, that my first language is the french lol
What are the simpliest fonction which can help me understand the mean of using Kyma for wav sound?
Second , i want to make some beautiful melody with reel birds and want to program a KBD
for playing severals differents birds but also to change easily the pitch, the length and more,
how can i do this ?
I'm very sorry for this noob questions but i've already done some greats sounds with Kyma and i know the potential of it , but the beginning is a bit hard for me
Kyma needs time to understand it but i'm working on a very interesting project which take
all my time...
A little help would not be denied.

Thanks,

Samy

Bonjour Samy!

I would recommend File>New and select Tau editor. Drag your wav files from the Sound Browser into the Tau editor to analyze them. Save it, then click the Galleries button. This gives you some example Sounds based on your originals that you can play with and combine. (That is just one idea to try).

Merci Scc,

i've already try the Tau editor, it's amazing ( although the possibilty of recording the sound )
but when i drag a sound in it , the sound is a little different from the original, so i change the frequency but it's still weird. Is there a way to be more transparent ?
I will try the Galleries.

Samy.

One approach is to try the KeyMappedMultiSample. If you put all of the bird samples into one Folder, then you can use the KeymappedMultiSample to play the samples from a keyboard. You could map One Per HalfStep initially just to test this out.

Have you tried doing a Spectral Analysis in the Tools menu?

If you would like to send me one of the bird samples, I can try some analyses on it and try to offer some advice on different settings that seem to work for that kind of sample.

Thanks!

Hello Samy,

Here are some Synthetic Birds Played on a Keyboard. In the file, you will hear several approaches:

* First, I tried to imagine a bird and created a chirping oscillator that sound bird-like
* Then I found a sample of some birds from the Serafine collection and analyzed it
* From that, I tried to make some synthetic birds based on that sample
* Next I got your file this morning and analyzed it with Tau and Spectral Analysis Tool
* I took examples from the Gallery of the Tau and the Spectral Analysis
* And tried to make some oscillators based on the amplitude and frequency of your sample

My favorite one is ALIEN BIRDS, which is a random playback of the Tau analyzed sample!

Hi Ssc,

I've openned your files in Kyma and i've discovered a lot of greats details !!!
First, your imagination for create birds with only oscillator is amazing...
Then, through your examples i experiment the Spectral Analysis and finally have some greats results.
The Tau editor is fantastic too, and your Alien Birds are super, but not realistic enough for the director . So i've worked with other birds and found some new ramdom loops, but how can i make a pause between loops in this case , like your Alien birds ???

Finally, i have a question, when i play a sample of timeline with my keyboard, how can i record the notes played ???

Tomorrow i will send you some examples of my work.

Thanks again

sAmy

HI,

After severals hours on Kyma i love it more and more!!
There is some examples of simple birds made thanks SSC
It still sound beginners ....

One with two samples with different settings of KBD, the other a loopsound from the gallery of the Tau editor.
My question is : how can i record the key played by the KBD on a timeline ?
I've found a way by the cache function...
I must find the way to record the iKeynumber ...
If someone have a idea ?

Best regards,

samy

Hi Samy,

I apologize for being out of town when you posted these so I missed it, and when I tried to play them just now, I discovered that there are some samples and tau files that are needed before you can hear the results.

A useful tip for everyone when posting Sounds on the forum or sharing them in the tweaky: in the Tools menu, there is an option called File Archivist that you can use to save the file and all of its source files in a single folder. Then you can zip the folder and post it (this includes all the files to which your Sounds refer, like sample files, spectrum files, tau files, etc).

Thanks for the discussions of this very interesting problem or project. I hope you were able to get results that satisfied the director.

Hi SSC,

It's my turn to apologize for this long silence and for the missing files...
So i use the tool to archive files and here they are !!!
For the file Poly i've needed to seperate the sample files..
I've managed to do very beautiful thinks thanks to your help,
and my work now is to morph two voices with the Tau editor...

Thanks again,

sAmy
