Dear Kymoos.

I am currently experiencing a hardware synthesiser/sampler revival in my life/studio.

I have been sequencing and sampling on the k2600 keyboard, sending out MTC to anything that will receive it; MPC2000, DSI Evolver, Ipad with step seq, MAQ hardware midi sequencers etc.

We jam out on combinations of midi topologies looking for the tightest sync.

The main issue is the various systems react differently to the midi clock, and has led me to discover the following hardware technologies... (The second one is the most interesting to me, as it allows you to offset the various streams, fine tuning the timing of the various elements)
http://www.innerclocksystems.com/New%20ICS%20Sync-Gen%20II%20Pro.html
http://www.s-n-d.com/acme4e_a.html

(I think we all know where this is headed... )

What is the maximum amount of midi ports I can address in Kyma Currently? Is there a compatible midi interface with say 2 - 4 midi outputs?

One assumes it would be easy to offset the clock streams if we could send them to different ports.

Thoughts, ideas, issues and rotten eggs please.

Charlie.

To my knowledge Kyma is only supporting one MIDI port!
However if you route the Kyma MIDI Clock output "through" a software like MaxMSP or SuperCollider on your computer you should be able to duplicate the MIDI Clock stream and "Shift" MIDI sync independently on each hardware output port because they support as many MIDI ports as you have.

The:

Is more like a "plugin" which generates independent sample accurate MIDI MasterClocks via one audio output of your soundcard. This is used to control the external sync generator box...
This is really tight...like a hardware sequencer.

In my current setup I sync Kyma from an external Clock via KymaConnect.
Shifting incoming MIDIClock within Kyma is possible.

I hope that helps a bit...
All the best
Chris

p.s.: Ableton Live supports sending MIDI clock with different "Offsets" on each hardware or virtual port.

Great stuff, thanks for your reply. I was sure there would be away on the Innerclock to shift things around.. mm Live, interesting thought, when ever I had tried MIDI Clock from Logic or Protools, it always seemed a bit inconsistent, and much preferred what my Kurz produced.

My suspicions are confirmed, I could not see anything listed with more than one output available.

Max might well be a good option, I wonder how tight it is...

Many thanks for your input.

I had lots of problems with Logic and ProTools and MIDI Clock Especially on "complex Plugin Audiounit rich" arrangements in Logic the MIDI clock output gets really "untight" and mixed up.
ProTools is a bit better but not really what it is supposed to be.

Anyway my main DAW is MOTU Digital Performer 7 and this Software is "tight" like a hardware sequencer when it comes to MIDI and MIDI Clock.

Ableton has the most options but... is not my kind of DAW.
I use it only for what it is supposed to be .. "a playing your Computer Live Software" ... there it syncs Perfectly to my main DAW running DP7 ...
Once there was a "sync shift" which has many MIDI Outputs but it is discontinued..
I can t remember the exact name but I have a friend who uses one of those in his setup. I can ask him next time i see him about the name and features.
I do remember that it was really expansive!

All the best
Chris
