Hi,
I want to simulate one of the old octave divider guitar pedals using kyma. Not a pitch shifting algorithm just some sort of frequency divider. The problem is I don't know how they worked - but I'll bet there's someone here that can tell me

Hi garreth
I'm also not sure but I think they may have amplified and clipped the signal to make a square wave, and then used a JK flip flop (as used on the old electronic organs) to derive a square wave of half the pitch .Then low pass filter it to make it more sine like, and then use a level detector and vca to match the level of the original signal. then mix it in with the original signal.
I'm not sure that this was how it was done but I thought that that was what it was doing when I heard it.

Hi Gareth!

I think Pete's correct. I found this URL with a description of the Roctave Divider:
http://www.carleton.ca/~mhammer/rocktave.pdf

Sounds like a perfect candidate for Kyma-emulation!
