Here is a resettable up/down counter that I've found handy. It uses EventValues to increment/decrement/clear a trigger counter. In the attached example, you see Up, Down, and Reset pushbuttons and the counter value.

You may need to elaborate some of the expressions with "asLogicValue" in the appropriate places, if the EventValue come from somewhere other than the VCS.
