Being hopelessly odl fashioned, I would really like to have a printed copy of the manual. I think I remember SSC saying that the manuals were on the way. DO you have an ETA on those?

Thanks!

Due to a snafu with the printer, we just found out that the book must be reprinted. Our revised ETA is second week of January.

Sorry for this unanticipated delay, but we hope it will make a nice new years present. Thank you for your patience!

Eventhough I do have the luxury of having a PowerBook to sit along side my main MAC for viewing the .PDF manual, I really do like having a printed paper copy to dog ear while I am sitting in bed.
And before ANY of you tree huggeres out there reply, just remember we are in Iraq for OIL and NOT paper the last time I checked the Bechtel website!! Or was it the Rand or Halliburton or Chevron or......

Yeah, I really like to read the manual offline, too. It's probably the second best source of creative ideas, short of being in front of the machine and tweaking...

So there will be a full printed manual shipped to users? Excellent news, indeed. I just stumbled on this post, and it was fortuitous that I did so, as I had planned to print up the PDF at Kinkos on this very day. You saved me a walk downtown...

And about a hundred bucks! That was the estimate they gave me...

Great Googly moogly! I am glad I read this. A hundred bucks...that's a sixth of a new DSP card (my value system these days is entirely based around the currency of Capy DSP cards)

According to the printer, they will be finished on January 28 and sent out for binding so they will arrive at Symbolic Sound on 6 February after which we will ship them out as fast as possible. Eager to get them out to you(!)

Excellent news. I am excited to really dig in and get my ehad around this stuff. I spent Friday night buidling my first synth in it. Rudimentary stuff (two analog oscs from some of my vintage synths, plus an additive osc...then subtractive stuff), but good for pads and bass sequences. I really did it to try to get a better understanding of the basics. It's slowly happening...but the manual will make it nuch easier.

For sure paper is better than a TV (monitor) for reading!
I prefer to read Kyma's manual in my bed, reading while listening to the best music ever composed ( or recorded )!. Longer path but I believe it's gonna be the best for me.

Arrived today. Yummy. Some new content since the PDF on the CD too. Thinking of ordering an extra one for the bedside table myself, maybe one for the bath too? Is there a laminated waterproof version available?!

Nice job!

I use to bring the old Kyma 4.5 with me when I
go off-road with my motorcycle; I'd like to get
a Kyma X revealed book that unfold like a roadmap
so I can use it as a readable carpet too.
Of course waterproof is a must for me too.

I received my manual yesterday evening. Wow. It is the most beautiful book I have seen in a long time. Color! For a technical manual, or for any kind of book, the quality and beauty matches very nicely with Kyma and Capybara.

Beauty begets Beauty, so I suspect some nice things will be coming out of my speakers soon...

I received mine yesterday. VERY nice.
However I prefer the original perfume of the old book!
I think it will be a lot easier for beginners to start with
this book. Also the "Advanced Topics" chapters are by far superior
to the old book.
First thing I noticed: no more "prototype"
chapter. Considering that each page of the new book contains
2 page of the old, and considering that the removed
prototype chapter occupied about 1/4 of the old book,
at 400 pages one can imagine how many revelations the X
book contains...
I only hope that it will be solid as its predecessor;
I still want to take it off-road with my dirt-bike
as I did before! I might order a spare copy...

I've read it through a couple of times now. It's a very very nice manual. It's not really even a manual, though is it? It's more of a text book. A beautiful text book.

I do miss the prototypes section, too. In fact, I would encourage SSC to publish an updated prototypes reference under separate (and equally beautiful) cover. Updated to include new protos and exclue the non-existing ones (like Cellular Automata that I wish was still there *sigh*).

Currently working on scripting notes via Smalltalk/CapyTalk. Loads of fun!

How about a PDF version that you could access online(?)

<glad you're enjoying the book!>

That would be very cool. When I get churly about the screen, I can take it to Kinko's for hard copy.

Yippie, the book arrived today! this is going to be brilliant!

I just started on a course of electronic composition at CEM (Centre of Electronic Music) in Amsterdam with access on the ARP 2500 / 2600, EMS VCS3 / Synthi A / Synthi AKS and a Serge Modular. I'm just going to work on one music piece and my Kyma System is the main instrument on this project, the course is 6 months, maybe it's interesting that I write some kind of journal of this project on Twiki, although English is not my first language.

So for now... first learning the Kyma X language!

That could be really interesting... People could offer suggestions or workarounds if you run into any Kyma puzzles. Perhaps you could even include MP3s of intermediate versions? It could be fascinating to observe a work in progress...

This would be ideal for suggestions or workarounds and MP3's or even some Timelines.

Tomorrow evening I've got a rendez vous to analyse and discuss my ideas, it is a small class of 3 people, Thursday I've got 4 hours of studio time but it is more to get familair in the CEM studio because its been a while that I have worked on these instruments but on the next session I'll bring Kyma in, and of course I've got enough time to work on this piece at my own studio, it's a kind luxury that I just work for 2 days (just a simple job that have nothing to do with music) in a week so enough time to learn and use Kyma for this music piece in progress.

Later on Tweaky.

Hi David,

You are a Kyma user so as far as I'm concerned it's oké, but I have to ask the people from CEM about this for a studio visit. Do you know they never heard about Kyma... but this is going to change soon!!!

I'll let you know by email.

Regards,

-Armand

Kyma X Prototypes Reference is now available from the tweaky: http://www.symbolicsound.com/tweaky

It's large so it will be up there for one week only (pls download it at your earliest convenience, thanks!)

Thanks! This is cool.

One thought: the zip file is HUGE but it does include everything. The prototypes PDF is only 780K. If you wanted to leave that up on Tweaky longer, just leave the PDF...no?

Again, thanks for this. On first perusal I rediscovered AnalysisFilter and am excited to do a little Frequency Shifting!
