hi!
i am toying around with the generator programs in the sample-tool.
when i want to insert 4096 samp the result differs sometimes from that number.
at least the info box tells me that the created sample has e.g. 4098 samp.
in order to use this sample as a wavetable, should i cut 2 samp or can i work with the 4098 samp file?
and what to do i the result is 4095 samp?
or is there anyway no trouble. i didnīt hear any difference up to now.
thanks for explanytion!
michael

The generator templates insert the number of samples you've requested at the insertion point OR they replace the currently selected portion of the wavetable. It's possible that you might not have had the entire original wavetable selected when you clicked the Insert button. In that situation, you might have inserted 4096 samples into an existing wavetable that already had 2 samples (or at least 2 *unselected* samples).

Some of the Kyma modules expect wavetables of exactly 4096 samp (e.g. the Oscillator and the GrainCloud). However, most Kyma samples and wavetables can be any length. If you have a longer wavetable (like your 4098 example), the Oscillator can still use it; it would just not access those last two samples.

Have fun with the generators!

its just that if i start from scratch, say open a new sample file and insert 4096 samp with a program it happens also that i sometimes end up with a differing sample length.
also if i do "select all" i assume that i donīt have any unselected samples, no?

i had also a strange experience with exponential segments. even if i insert 4096 sample i end up with a much smaller wavetable.
is this a bug, a feature or did i make something wrong?

Could you tell us which generator template you used and the exact values of the parameters? This way we can try to replicate your experiences here. Thanks!

i just used the default settings for "exponential segments"
which in my case are:
duration: 4096 samp
points: 0.0625 1.0 0.5 0.125
segment proportions: 0.125 0.25 0.375

the resulting sample is then 3071 samp long.
weired, no?

thx.

"points: 0.0625 1.0 0.5 0.125
segment proportions: 0.125 0.25 0.375"

Oh, I see. The template parameters are incorrect. In order to generate the total number of samples requested, the segment proportions should add up to a total of 1. In this case, the total adds up to 0.75. (and 4096 * 0.75 = 3072) so the template is giving you 75% of the total samples you asked for. You could change the parameters to:

points: 0.0625 1.0 0.5 0.125 0.00001
segment proportions: 0.125 0.25 0.375 0.25

to get a 4096 sample long wavetable that gets very close to zero at the end.

(BTW, congratulations on being the first person to notice this!)

This template has been corrected and will appear in the next release.
