Hi!

Is the expansion slot of the new powerbook g4 (titanium) compatible with the PCMCIA-card of kyma?
i was thinking of cross-grading from a windows-PCI system to the powerbook for more mobility and compatibility with the rest of my computers. is it worth it, or do i loose a lot performance through the PCMCIA-interface?

Hi Frank,

Yes the PCMCIA Kyma card is compatible with the G4(Titanium) - No problems here on a G4 500Mhz version. Kyma is nice and fast on this thing btw!

Frank,

working from a PB is great - I have a G3 400. Check out the Firewire discussion though, as the PCMCIA card is only about 25% the performance of the PCI card interface.

firewire would be cool but isnŽt available (yet). so iŽll stick to PCMCIA. the decreased performance is only noticable when using record to disk or read from disk i guess...

Yes mostly, thought if you use samples streamed from disk, the gui can slow to being unusable. So yes anything to do with disk I/O.
