I've been following the Kyma X revealed guide and I can not replicate the outcome stated on page 28 under "One Input, many effects". I have a properly powered microphone (at line level) feeding into Input 1. (I tested it with Audio In patch. Checks sat)

I've gone to the sound-processing algorithms (cyan arrows) and it my input is not substituted for the default input.

Any ideas?

Hi Robert,

At the top of the Sound Browser, does it say "Input1" in the text field?
Is the button to the right of that field depressed? (This button specifies whether or not to use the specified input as the substitute input for the Sounds below)

(and just to double check... If you open the DSP Status window and make noises into the microphone, do you see the Vu meter jumping for input channel 1?)

Yes, "Input1" in text field, button to right depressed. VU Meter jumps on input channel (1). As soon as I hit the space bar the disk file begins to play and no input from microphone is heard despite being seen on VU.

Hi Robert,

You should check if the sound has a "replaceable input".
I remember that the manual states that there is a sound demonstrating this feature, although the sound is buggy and has no replaceable input. I think it is "Cross Vocoder" or "Freq Input Vocoder" or something.

Cheers,
Camille

Hi Robert,

Could you please give me the name of one of the Sounds that does not work? That way I can try it out here on my system so I can try to see what is going on.

Thanks!

I'm a pretty literal guy (dangerous I know ) but I took the examples right from the text:

Effects-EUverb

Effects-Formnt mod resynth

Hi Bob,

I wonder what else might be going on... (The Effects-EUverb and Effects-Formnt mod resynthesis seem to be working ok. I was just now able to substitute the microphone input for their replaceable inputs and heard my voice going through the reverb etc)

What Sound do you hear when you play? Is it possible that the Prototype Strip is the front window (rather than the Sound Browser)? Is Effects-EUverb selected? Does it make a difference if you click the Play button at the top of the browser (rather than pressing the space bar to play)?

Victory! When I depressed the play button on the top of the browser rather than the space bar I was able to hear my beautiful voice with plenty of reverb and sound like a hell-spawn demon only a patch away!

Thanks. Though, I still don't know why it wouldn't work using just the space bar. But you've given me a work around.

I wonder whether the problem might have been that the Sound Browser was not the frontmost window? By pressing the play button, you were ensuring that the window was in front. Could you please try clicking in the Sound Brower (to make sure it is the active window) and then give the space bar another try?

When I made the Sound Browser the active window depressing the space bar worked as well. I remember now that when I call up a patch I would click on it to make it active, then depress the space bar. It wasn't clear to me that I had to make the Sound Browser active. Now I know.
