Author | Topic: Problem with Motu UltraLite MK-3 |

![]() ![]() ![]() Hello SSC, After upgrading Kyma, my Ultralite MK-3 has been misbehaving. The volume control stopped working. Then, without warning, it started making "boom" sounds every five seconds. All 8 output meters would light up, then go dark, then light up. I moved the MK-3 to another machine that has the Motu drivers installed, and it works fine. It will not misbehave until I launch Kyma X on its "home" machine. Then the booming starts. I have reset the MK-3 to factory defaults with no luck. Confession: the MK-3 was attached to the system when I ran the Kyma firmware update. I know, the instructions say "disconnect other firewire devices" but I stupidly thought that meant in addition to the ones that help run Kyma. This may be a red herring since the Motu works fine on my other system, with drivers installed etc. Any suggestions? Have you heard of other Motu issues? IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Hi Theo, Have you tried using the MOTU with its power supply (i.e., not powered from the FW bus)? Wondering whether something may have changed on your FW bus that could be drawing more power. (We double checked our MOTUs here on the new version and everything seems to be ok). IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Nope, that didn't do it. I tried also switching firewire cables and ports, but that also didn't fix it. Here is a short video of the Motu being weird.
Now, if I could find my Kyma X install disk, I could try on another computer! This has me stumped! thanks, Theo IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Can't say my MOTU Traveller mk3 is running "rock solid", there's crackling in the output when running at 48khz sampling rate or multiples thereof. Box works fine without Pacarana. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Any chance there could be a feedback loop in the way things are routed through the MOTU? IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Weird, in your video, the MOTU backlight is completely blacking out and input levels are jumping up. Could you please try turning off the phantom power on the inputs? Then please try it with no audio connections, just the FireWire connection. (Might just be worth just double-checking that the MOTU driver is not installed on that computer) [This message has been edited by SSC (edited 29 June 2010).] IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Same thing is happening. Screen blacks, all 8 channels pop, etc. I have connected only the firewire -- no audio or midi devices, no monitors. Motu drivers are not installed (and never have been on this machine). I think it is possessed.... I am going to see if I can find the Kyma install disk and try on a different machine, plus get a Behringer cheapo interface to try to further isolate the problem. At this point I don't even know where the issue if coming from... Theo IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() When in doubt, throw money at the problem... I just went out an bought an M-Audio Fast Track Pro and that is working fine. So ... don't know what the issue is with the Motu. If and when I find the Kyma install disk I will try to replicate the problem on another machine. Until then, I have a really nice interface for Pandora... Theo IP: Logged |
