I'd really appreciate it if someone who uses this setup could verify whether you can get 4 inputs, and/or explain to me how the sounds in virtualinputsoutputs.kym work. Thanks.

I'd be interested in knowing this too. I plan on using the Capy as the front end to the Pacarana, but I hope to be able to access more than two inputs.

I am running Capy and Pacarana. Capy is plugged into the Pacarana. I normally just use stereo in and out. Currently I have the digital connections and sync configured. The Capy DSP status window = Clock Source Digi in 1 & 2 In 1&2 is Digital and In 3&4 is Analogue. I know my Digi in's work, so I plug a mic directly into Input 3 (not ideal, but I can see signal on the meters) So far so good. Next I select Pacarana as DSP, it politely asks if I would like to use Capy as IO, I agree. Now I click the configure tab on Paca DSP status window, I can see that inputs 1-4 are routed to the virtual inputs, however I do not see any signal level on my Paca meters (3/4) yet my 1&2 work as analogue or digi on both capy and paca. Sorry, No Joy. SSC - are we being numpties? Ta Charlie

By default, the Capybara is configured to use 2 in and 6 out when used as the I/O for the Paca(rana). If you would like to use a different number of inputs and outputs, or would like to add pre- or post-processing to the inputs and outputs, please follow the instructions on this page: http://www.symbolicsound.com/Learn/Capybara320AsIO Here are the important bits from the page: 1. In Kyma, use Select DSP from the DSP menu to select the Capybara-320 as your DSP 2. Design the input and output processing patch using these Sounds to represent the virtual inputs and outputs, and play it 3. Use use Select DSP from the DSP menu to switch to the Paca(rana) (when it asks if you would like to use the Capybara as your I/O, say NO!) NB: The Paca(rana)-Capybara solution will have longer input-to-output delay than a Paca(rana)-direct-to-converter solution.

What I couldn't figure out when I tried this is how the sounds in the virtualinputsoutputs.kym worked so that I could set it up as 4/4. None of the sounds there have that configuration.

I also don't understand what's being said about the choosing the dsp if you want another configuration. You seem to be saying that you shouldn't choose the capybara as the i/o - but otherwise it just says 'silent device'....but whenever I try to play any of the config sounds I get an error something like this:Kyma encountered this unexpected condition: My subclass should have overridden one of my messages. This may have occurred due to a problem in one of your Sounds. The following information is provided to help you track down the problem. Ahh ok, I see how it works now. Mr Drool, I think you are misinterpreting the settings on the DSP status window, when you should be looking at the menu at the top of the screen DSP > 'Select DSP.' This will then give you a choice. (choose flame). As for modifying the patch to have more than two inputs I will have to stare at it for a little longer. Charlie

Here is an example of a four channel input, four channel output Sound for the Capybara. To use it, use Select DSP from the DSP menu, choose your Capybara. Then play this Sound. Then choose Select DSP again, and choose your Pacarana; make sure to click the No button when it asks if you would like to use the Capybara as an I/O (if you click Yes, Kyma will load the 2 in, 6 out default Sound and will not use this special Sound). If the Capybara is not selected in the DSP Status window as your Audio Input and Output, select it from the list. If the Capybara is not in the list, select Rescan from the Control drop down menu in the DSP Status window.

Does the 4-in/4-out limit apply to Capybaras with the IO expansion?

Yes, it has to do with the bandwidth of the older Flame Firewire connection.
