Author | Topic: Recurrent bluescreens after 20min |
andro.bole@volja.net Member |
![]() ![]() ![]() hi everyone. I know it may be useless, but still, cant loose anything with trying. I get bluescreens, one after another, after approx 20 min of use. Have the latest kyma version, and firmware on the Pacarana. Everything works fine and dandy up to the actual block. I ran screens, dsp meter never reaches past 10%, ram roughly 30% and proc around 45%, all "full on" on the patches where bluescreens most frequently occur.
One of the weirder things I have noticed, the I/O delay options in Status window are unresposnive, I cannot change anything, it looks it is set on 10ms. Also the Saffire sometimes goes beserk, loosing and getting sync, restarting itself on its own, spooky stuff like that. any tips to try, before I go for the full disk format and try from scratch ?? EDIT : I have windows 7, 64 bit, my kyma folder is in Program files x86 thanks for any input ! Andraz [This message has been edited by andro.bole@volja.net (edited 15 May 2011).] IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Does the blue screen contain any information, such as an error number or error message? IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() i had a similar problem with my MOTU audio interfaces on my windows mashine ... it turned out that the problem was the latest motu drivers for XP. i also changed to an other PCI-Firewirecard with a TI - Chipset... but i did not test with kyma because i use kyma exclusively on my mac. But make shure you use a TI chipset Firewire card... all the best chris IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() hi Christian, thanks for your input. Whats bothering me is, that completely the same setup worked without flaws on my previous workstation. Thats whats making me hesitant to buy a new soundcard, because I fear it will only do the same problem. After some searching, the ohci1394.sys file has apparently something to do with the firewire controller. And since this bluescreen is only recreatable via Kyma setup, that works on firewire, that is a hint. Maybe the pacarana drivers ? 64 bit os ? fact that pacarana has fw 800 out and the rest of the components are fw 400, but then again if this were the case, previous workstation would have had issues too...gahhhh IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Hi! on one of my "pc" machines i had problems with: PCI-X cards of various brands. So i switched to an old standard PCI (without X) card... It turned out that the asus mainboard "shared" the IRQ of the PCI-X firewire card somehow with my PCI-X NVIDIA GTX graphiccards through the whole PCI-X bus... For this "pc" workstation i recently bought a new board which handles the assignemnt of IRQs much better. With the gigabyte board i can use both together ... a PCI-X 1394B card in FW 800 mode exclusivly for pacarana-> Konnekt 24D and a 3 port PCI 1394b (FW800+400) card for 3 MOTU FW audiointerfaces on windows 7 or mac os x. I do not think that you have a problem with your audio cards or your paca(rana). I think it is more a probem of you system configuration/setup. Some questions i would ask myself: What kind of firewire(1394) card do you use in your new setup? onboard , PCI or PCI-X ? (Onboard is most of the time a "no go".) But if you have an onboard firewire port but use a PCI card...then disable the onboard FW port in the Bios. Did the card/board came with a driver or a installer or is it supported directly by windows 7? Did you try to change the PCI (X) slot of your FW-Card and tried again? Also some cards/mainboards come with a "installer cd" which may install old version of the ohci1394.sys. For XP SP3 i remember there was a special topic at microsoft.com about this issue and a downloadable hotfix which was not included in the online updates.

![]() ![]() ![]() hello christian, thank you very much for the long post with advice. I would like to clear up something, as I am a bit confused.
Could you be a bit more specific as to what should I disable in bios ?? thanks very much, and sorry for asking so much Andrew IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() quote: I am talking about the firewire port of your computer. Is it "onboard"? If it is near your USB and network port(s) do you know the name of your mainboard? all the best IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() hi again, thanks for the quick response.
I have installed the latest service pack for win 7 64 bit, hope that will sort it out.

![]() ![]() ![]() ahhh okay... a laptop. With a hacked chipset to use desktop CPUs/RAM? If you do not get the internal FW port to work correct with your audio cards you can buy an ExpressCard Firewire adapter (if it has a Expresscard slot of course). My friends ThinkPad with crappy internal FW do not work "stable" with his FW Audio interfaces (Fireface 800, Traveller, 828, 003 Rack) but works great now with this one here: http://www.lacie.com/de/products/product.htm?id=10537 But I did not check the Lacie with the pacarana! Maybe someone from symbolic sound knows about a better Expresscard - FW adapter for PC. I was wondering how to squeeze desktop RAMs or a CPU into a laptop and even despite from the fact that it is a power and heat nightmare like on most of the gaming laptops ...what would be the benefit? ;-) All the best from Berlin [This message has been edited by ChristianSchloesser (edited 24 May 2011).] IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() This might be helpful http://www.windowsanswers.net/articles/fix-blue-screen?tid=irqlgoog Could be a driver, or memory issue or might be that overclocked processor. With memory, I generally take it all out and try one memory card at a time. Once that is ruled out, move to the next possible cause. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() guys BIG thanks for those links, I think it actually fixed the problem. Im on testing at the moment, but there is definitely a change, since no bluescreen occured in 12 hours.
Im on the move a lot, so I decided ill try to go with something as much akin to a desktop powerhouse on the go, and until this little bsod hickup, I have had only great experiences. [This message has been edited by andro.bole@volja.net (edited 25 May 2011).] IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() hi guys. well, bad news. bluescreen is back. Im really out of options I think, besides buying the firewire adapter that you linked Christian. I guess I could try the tedious task of formatting everything and trying from scrath. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Sorry to hear that it still does not work... Well ... i would try to install everything from scratch... after a backup of course ... and check that you do not install any unnecessary or outdated drivers... Did you check the driver and FW chipset of your laptop? It should be possible to identify the FW-Chipset by the manufacturer .. If it is not a TI-Chipset then it is probably a good idea to buy the Express card ... all the best IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() hello again...sorry for bumping this again...
on the other hand, could I try buying a new, inexpensive usb (instead of FW) audio interface for my pc, to substitute the, I think, faulty saffire and try to workaround the FW issue ? IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() did you try to just use the konnekt24d with the pacarana alone? PC->FW-Out> Pacarana -> Konnekt24 -> audio out... without the safire at all... IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() greetings yet again, Id like to try this. It sounds similar to the last setup in this list, although I will need to buy an additional FW 800-800 cable : Until then, I am connected : laptop -FW400- konnekt24d -FW400-800- Pacarana no crashes or bluescreens as of yet, but I cannot select anything in the DSP window, only silent device. No sound output, but sound is generated, I can see meters flashing in the dsp window. [This message has been edited by andro.bole@volja.net (edited 06 June 2011).] IP: Logged |
