I am starting to look at taking my Capybara 320 places & need a (deep enough) rack mounted carrying case, with wheels, handle & around 4-6 rack spaces total, since the Capy takes 3 of those spaces.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Blessings,

Just before he left to tour with Lucibel Crater, Sarth Calhoun recommended the following sites:
http://www.quickcases.com/
http://www.carrycasesplus.com/nanuk-cases-c184.html

This last one is my favorite because of the hilarious photos:

Thanks! Does Symbolic Sound still offer the flight case &/or padded carrying case? I found them under "Accessories" on the website, but not on the order page.

I use the 6-space version of this:
http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/SKB-SKBRLX-RollX-Rack-Case-with-Wheels?sku=544590

and it's worked well for me. Just be aware that because of its depth, the Capybara needs to be mounted in the middle of the rack; otherwise, it's connectors will be blocked by the edges of the case.

Thanks for that recommendation. I'll look at these SKB cases. Question: can you fit the Capy with the cables attached (audio & the to-Flame FireWire interface cable), or do you have to disconnect everything, even when rack-mounting it in the middle of the case?

You have to disconnect everything - the cables, particularly the Flame cable and standard XLRs, stick out too far for the rear panel to be attached.

The rear closure, which you can't really see in the photos, isn't a wraparound detachable unit like the front cover - it's a panel that attaches with clips to the edges of the rear case panel, rather than a full cover like the front, if that makes sense. That's why you have to mount the Capy in the middle, because the edges of the case wrapping around the rear enclosure prevent access to the connectors when you mount the Capy in any other position. However, even when mounted in the middle, the Capy is too long for the cables to remain attached, unless you didn't attach the rear cover, which I think would be a bad idea.

In spite of that, I wasn't able to find another rolling suitcase-style rack case that worked as well, so I use it anyway. You'd probably need a case that was 24 inches deep to mount the Capy with the cables attached, and I haven't found anyone else who makes one that deep.

I use the 4-unit version of that SKB x-roll case, but have the capy turned around so that the back panel faces the front. In this way it doesn't have to be in the middle, and I can leave all the cables, except the one that connects to the flame, attached and still get the cover on over them.

When flying, though, I take the capy out and put it in the overhead compartment in the soft case, while the SKB gets checked stuffed full of less sensitive things (like my clothes...)

Thanks rlainhart & Phil. You have given me an option & great ideas on how to take my Capybara with me.
