vKi 1.1 is a major update to Delora Software's "one handed remote control" for Kyma's VCS. vKi 1.1 new features elevate it to a full-featured VCS controller that that rivals its bigger sibling vKiP!

The first improvement is the addition of 32 lighted pushbutton that are automatically mapped to VCS toggle and pushbutton settings. These can be used as momentary pushbuttons, toggle buttons, and even "LED" indicators. All 32 buttons are available on a single page, with easy one-handed control.

The second new feature is "Jump to Touch". When enabled faders, and their corresponding VCS setting, will immediately "jump" to the where you press inside the fader. This makes rapid value changes a snap.

The last, and perhaps most exciting new feature, is the introduction of "Learn Faders". These sixteen faders can be used along side the VCS's "learn" feature to rapidly attach any fader to any VCS setting. This is perfect if you have settings that you want immediately available, even when the VCS has assigned the main faders and rotaries to another "bank". Learn faders can also be set up to provide automatic control over "hot events" that you program into your Kyma creations.

vKi works directly with network-connected Paca and Pacaranas. Capybara users with an OSX compatible computer can use our free CapyLink product to use vKi to control Capybara Kyma systems. vKi 1.1 is available immediately from the iTunes App Store for $9.95. Ok, I got it, it looks great, however I think I need to update my networking to get it going.
At the moment I am running a very convoluted setup.
My wireless/ethernet router as it stands has one cable coming upstairs to my mac-pro. I then have the pacarana connected to the second ethernet port.

I have tried bridging the ports yet it makes no difference. I did look at the FAQ, yet no networking setups apply to me as I have no AP card.

MMM, I think i might have another 100mb router somewhere.

Does it matter if the pacarana is connected at 100mb for pacamidi?

Fun Fun.

Hi Charlie,

Thanks for purchasing vKi. You have a couple of ways you can do this. The main question though is how strong/reliable is your Wi-Fi signal in the studio. if your iPhone/iPod can successfully connect and reliably use the network then you can go in one of two directions:

a) As you proposed attach another Ethernet switch to your main network before it goes into the Mac Pro and then the Mac Pro and the Pacarana to it. OSC data rates into the Pacarana will probably not benefit much from GigaEthernet so 100mb/sec is OK. However you may notice network activities on your Mac Pro affect if you access anything local on the network.

b) Add our PacaConnect application and leave your network as is. PacaConnect was designed to address this exact type of situation. We have a 14 day demo available so if you'd like to give it a shot just email a request to sales@delora.com

If your Wi-Fi signal is weak or otherwise intermittent in the studio then the solution is a bit more complex. My own studio set up solves this problem by using a local AirPort Extreme as a combination Wi-Fi extender and GigaEthernet switch. I cannot speak to other brands of Wi-Fi gear but there are probably similar options from companies like Linksys or Netgear.

Alternatively you could retain the wired connection to your main network and set up a secondary Wi-Fi network just for the studio. To do that obtain an inexpensive Wi-Fi access point/router and connect the 2nd Mac Pro Ethernet port, and the Pacarana, to it. Its set up would be similar to a "normal" Wi-Fi access point except there would be no Internet sharing. You must, however, set the router up as a DHCP provider.

If you have any more questions give me a shout here, or send an email to support@delora.com.

Thanks again for your world class rapid support.

I am admiring my studio from new angles whilst tweaking parameters.

I got my hands on a gigabit router in the end. Solved a few problems in one go.

When I first booted it up, I still had BCF mode engaged rather than motormix, this actually worked surprisingly well, the only issues I could find where bank switching, mute button and not being very happy about switching back to normal control from fine. (that and no parameter names - which is to be expected obviously)

The following are thoughts floating around in my head. (not really serious suggestions)

Perhaps vKi could be retrofitted to support BCF mode, then the two can run in tandem (sacrificing a couple of the natty features)

Or perhaps the two protocols could be separated out allowing kyma, BCF and full vKi tripple direction comms.

Good Day to you all.

Kyma's current MIDI control surface support is currently an either-or affair. I would imagine the future lies more on the OSC side of things.

The BCF2000 implementation is somewhat limited compared to the MotorMix one that vKi and vKiP leverage. We could certainly do an emulation but in the end the product would be more limited.

Perhaps one way to gain the benefits of your BCF and an application like vKi is to use vKi to automatically control the VCS and supplement it by using the BCF with Kyma's existing MIDI learn mode. This would give you bankable cadets and rotaries, plus switches/LEDs. Just be sure and assign the BCF to any MIDI channel than 1. That is reserved for MotorMix usage.
