i have just received a new (to me) error message. "the capybara 320 is not responding signal processor response too short. (14)" i have repeated it & the sound is cloudbank ctrl by cellular automation. the only change to the sound was a substition of the grain wave.

the message pops up if i let the sound run long enough then kyma needs to reintialize the capy

can anyone shed anylight on this?

thanks again

Hi Rafe,

I am sorry to say that, but there is definitively a problem with your FireWire stack. Have you installed a clean system ? I mean are there any spurious drivers that could cause bus resets on random intervals ? Have you tried to run the Capybara without your RME interface. I never hear any incompatibilities between the Flame and other devices (hard drives or audio interfaces).

If you suspect your FireWire port to be loose, you should try continue working on the 400 port ...

Best luck,
Cam

Rafe, On the telephone you mentioned problems with your desktop computer power supply, the RME interface, and the Capybara I/O all starting at the same time. Is it possible that you had a power outage or a brown-out at your studio? I know you have a power conditioner for handling spikes but not all of them handle under-voltages (does it say whether it does?)

Or do you recall a static zap that might have affected all those pieces of equipment at the same time?

Another possibility that could be affecting all pieces of equipment like that would be a severe ground loop. Are all of your devices connected to the power through the same outlet (via a power strip)? If not, then there could be a ground loop. A ground loop can look like a big sine wave on the ground line and can make logic 1 and 0 look different at different ends of a cable.

Please email or give us a call so we can help you diagnose this problem.

hello all

thanks for the input. i am using a furman ar series 2 as a voltage regulator, and furman claims (http://www.furmansound.com/products/pro/reg/reg6.php?req=pc) that this device will manage both types of irregularities. Yes the quad G5 that i received has a recall for the power supply but the artical from mac on the problem gave specific symptoms of that problem which this g5 did not exhibit, the logic board had a 'gammy' processor so it is being returned. it is however a heavy power consumer especially when the fans kicked so the theory of underage is possible.

in terms of the ground loop, all of my devices are on the furman, two powerbars are used to cover the connection needs but that is the only device on that circuit, actually everything except the data link ethernet connections and all audio cabling is ballanced - that doesn't necessarilly cover everything but ....

aside from the quad the only 'heavey' power consumer on that circuit are my nearfields - but that circuit has 1500 plus watts and a quick glance at the tally all other devices should be well under 500 watts. as far as a static zap - i had no indication of an instance of that.

as far a Camilles concern about new spurious drivers - nothing new on my laptop - and the capy is on the fw400 port with the seagate.

as far as my other comment regarding the cellular automata error code i ran the sound a third time before calling it a night and the sound ran great for 3 of 4 minutes and no error but i have now allow stack traces and will run the sound again.

fyi - i am away from my desk for the day but i will work on this over the weekend and report.

Kurt could you please email me if there are periods that your schedule is filled between now and the holidays . i am thinking if the only problem is the i/0 i may attempt to get as much work done as possible and time the shipment accordingly.

as you can tell its been a bad gear week. perhaps all this electrical issues are my tension - induce voltage from lack of nicotine

thanks
