![]() ![]() ![]() hello i am having fw bussing issues on my fw800 port of my laptop and i am needing to run some tests. Could any one let me know if i use a fw 800 (9pin) cable to fw400 (6 pin) if the kyma/flame/ capy would operate normally. if so this would help me source the buss issues. thanks rafe IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() hello Camille My problem is with my rme fireface and fw800 port - i am having intermittent problems with the fw800 ports and i am trying to isolate whether it is the rme or my laptop. The tech from the rme forum suggested using this methed. the trouble is the rme is only device i have with fw800 ports. i wanted to know if the capy would respond normally by using this method before i actually attempted it. i have tested the rme and the results are still inconclusive. fortunately the 400 ports still work but putting the capy and the rme on the same fw port creates oddities - yesterday i took a snapshot of a vcs setting and that froze kyma and the rme lost connection. Thanks so much for your input and your bravery FYI - fw800 cables do not sit deeply in the fw800 sockets and the weight of the cable is heavy, (heavier than fw400) putting strain on the connections. As a result one of the two fw800 ports on the rme is deinitely in need of repair. Anyone who needs to use fw800 should consider a strain relief method. I need to be away from my station for the afternoon and if anyone has any other advice or words of wisdom before i proceed i would love to hear it. if it is the my latop, i would hate to damage my flame during the test. ie a short on the fw800 bus or something akin.

![]() ![]() ![]() Rafe, Actually FW800 is backward compatible with FW400, it is just a matter or speed and plug. Have you tried to put the FireFace and the Capy on the same FW400 port? I believe it would not change anything to your problem, as the FW800 and FW400 outlets of your computer are internally connected to the same device. This is why some users choose to isolate streams by adding a secondary FireWire card to their PowerBook. For example the LaCie does the work pretty fine ( http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?pid=10482 ). For that, I recommend you try this solution, which is not very expansive (you can find it at less than $75). Are you using the AV/C firmware? This can be the cause of a driver incompatibility between the FireFace and the Flame. If yes, you should try to downgrade the firmware of the Flame to the previous stable version. ![]() ![]() ![]() hello thanks again for you input Camille but my capybara would not repsond using that type of connection on my powerbook 1.5 ghz. the capybara shows up in the system profiler but the message " please connect your unknown" keeps appearing. on the plus side the Rme is working with that connection fw800 9 pin from mac to fw400 6 pin. On the odd side if i reverse the cable and route the fw400 from mac to fw 800 on the rme it also works but if i route fw800 to fw800 i have no connection. BTW I have all new fw cables. i planned to purchase a fw pcmcia card , but everything worked well until a few days ago so i hadn't followed through. as far as the avc beta download - my pb is on panther so not yet.
