I use Kyma in os x, but thought I'd try installing it on my Fusion virtual windows 7 machine. I have been unsuccessful, and before I continue to bang my head against the wall, thought I'd ask if this is possible - to have it installed on the virtual machine so that I could use it in Windows when I wanted. Trying to follow the instructions, but windows doesn't seem to find the hardware....My instructions are for xp - not sure if it even works in windows 7 - I haven't been able to find any info. And maybe the virtual machine can't take it over from os x? I haven't a clue and thought I'd ask before spending any more time at this....

Hi,
As far as I know none of the current virtualisation software (VMWare, Virtualbox, Xen etc) supports virtualisation of the firewire interface. Therefore this can't work, for example from the VMWare site FAQ:

"No, VMware Fusion does not support virtualizing FireWire devices, so you cannot use your FireWire camera or scanner with Windows."

Personally I would question why you would want to run Kyma under Windows when OS X runs things much better, for example Kyma controllers over OSC via OSCulator, double-click opens .kym files and so on. Oh and I'm pretty sure Windows 7 isn't even supported! These and various other Windows Kyma gaps all made me transition to OS X a few years ago

Hope that helps

Dave

Kyma is working under Windows 7. (But yes, as far as we know none of the emulators include FireWire functionality).
