does Kyma 5 run under mac os 9.2 ?

i have upgraded both my machines and reinstalled the kyma software . when i boot up my tower the capybara gets innitialized and then the soundbrowser help window appears. then an empty grey rectanglular window appears over the help window , at this point eveything freezes.

On my laptop I get the blank grey rectanglular window before the innitilizing of the capy. At that point stalling.

regards

Yes, Kyma does run under OS 9.2 (in fact if you have the FireWire interface, OS 9.2 is *required*).

From your description, it sounds like you have run into the "too much memory" syndrome. The current version of Kyma cannot start up on Macintoshes with >512 MB of RAM. We are working on fixing this problem (which is related to the version of Smalltalk we are using).

In the meantime, there is a workaround. Start up another program first before starting Kyma. If the program uses up enough memory to leave you less than 512 MB, then Kyma can start up and you can then quit the other program (if you like). If you don't have a program that large, you can take your copy of SimpleText and allocate a large enough chunk of memory to it so that you can start SimpleText, start Kyma, then quit SimpleText.

Sorry for the extra step. We are working on the solution in the meantime.

thats odd.... I've been running kyma with no apparent problems under 9.1.2 w the fire wire interface.

i've also have done the simple text trick on both comps. i have a gig of ram in the PB and i allocated 600mb to simple text.
i have a 1.5 gig in the tower allocating a gig to simple text. however I will double check this when i get home tonight .

my OS is 9.2.2 if that makes a difference. I checked what i had allocated to simple text and they're both above the necessary minimums to run kyma; 700 mb on PB and 1.1G on tower. Both computers now stall at the same time while loading up kyma . it is right after the innitilizing of the capy. and the soundbrowser help page pops up for the first time. then a long grey empty horizontal rect angle appears in the foreground. At this point i can move the pointer and even scroll down the menu items but nothing happens and i have to force quit.

thanx

Try throwing away the Kyma Preferences (found in the Program folder of the Kyma folder).

thank you

that fixed the problem.

it worked the first time on the pb(1g ram) without any simpletext work around

on the tower (1.5g ram) i needed to allocate 600mb minimum and 700mb prefered to simpletext . when i allocated only 600mb to both prefered and minimum i got the same problem as above. Sorry, i wish i can help you with a more detailed explanation of the problem. If you need any specific questions answered i will to try my best to accomodate.

thanx again
