![]() ![]() ![]() As suggested by my pleas for help in the Tips and Techniques forum, I have been beavering away on a couple of synths. The first of these is called "WaveSynth" and can be downloaded from here: http://www.theelectronicgarden.com/Scot/WaveSynth.zip This Sound contains two variations on the same idea. First and foremost is the WaveSynth, a dual-oscillator wavetable synthesizer meant to be used with a MIDI sequencer or keyboard. Inspired by the mighty PPG Wave 2.2 and its many descendants, it makes use of a custom-made wavetable created on my PPG Waveterm. This wavetable consists of dozens of waveforms, some of which were painstakingly copied from actual instruments using what amounts to "manual resynthesis" - in other words, I had to approximate the levels of each partial for each wave and enter them numerically. A real chore, but quite educational! WaveSynth offers my favorite functions of the PPG Wave, Waldorf Microwave, Blofeld, et al. Each wavetable oscillator has a BPM-synced LFO with various wave shapes (themselves based on an included custom wavetable using waveforms from my modular analogue synthesizer) for modulating the wavetable index. The filter, too offers the same sort of LFO. In addition to the LFOs, there are dedicated ADSRs across the interface, for the amp and filter, natch, but also for modulating the wavetable indices. With added delay and reverb, it makes a pretty good digital synthesizer, capable of some interesting sounds. I had a lot of help from Kyma users in working this stuff out. I am no programmer! There are doubtless much better ways to do a lot of the things here, and there are more than a few kludges due to my lack of skill. Nevertheless I think it turned out well. There is another "Pico" version in the Sounds file. Likewise based on my DIY PPG wavetable, this one is a single-osc version lashed to a keyboard-transposable sequencer. Unfortunately, due to the way the Wavetable Oscillator works, to make the sequencer work, some latency is unavoidable, but with a bit of practice, you can easily transpose it "live" or, at the very least, record it into your DAW and then crop out the bits you like. It's quite interesting to sequence the wavetable index, a technique I use frequently on my modular synth. I don't often share my Kyma things because, frankly, I'm slightly embarrassed by my lack of programming prowess. However, in this case, I thought others might get some inspiration out of these instruments. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() This is really great fun. This is really a solid usable instrument, I am enjoying it. So far I have just been playing with the Wavestate, it really does *do the thing* very nicely. I am going to check out the PPG style next. Thanks so much for sharing, you should not feel embarrassed, it is great work!! Will they be permanently hosted on these links? Are you planning to submit them to the share? Did you make any tweaks since August? Funky Modulations. Charlie IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Hi Charlie, sorry for the delay - I've been bogged down in work lately. I will keep these links up indefinitely, but you can of course, feel free to do as you wish with the sounds. And yeah, absolutely on the Make-It-So. I wasn't sure about posting such big Sounds on the Wiki share, but only because of the size. I absolutely would like to see them up there. I did a whole Kyma-only tune using lots of these Sounds. You can find that here: http://soundcloud.com/scot-solida/phosphene-beacons IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Wow, what great work!! This is definitely a bit complex for me, but I really enjoy the sounds made possible from your programming… Thank you so much for sharing!! IP: Logged |
