Since getting a Powerbook G3, my tolerance for external equipment noise has become even lower.

So since the Capybara (66) is now the most noisey part of my setup, I was wondering if it is possible to replace its internal fan? It is quite noisey, so maybe a new, more quiet fan would reduce the noise level?

The critical details are that the fan should operate on 12 volts DC and should move 10 or more cubic feet per minute of air. The size of the fan is 60 mm.

The fan that we use in the Capybara is the quietest we have been able to find (around 21 dBA). However, all fans tend to become noisier with age.

Please let us know if you locate a source for quieter fans!

www.papst.com

German company.

12.4 CFM, 12 V DC, 16 dB(A)

I agree. I don't find it low-low noise either.

Also, I might remember wrong, but there's no temperature control gadget thingy is there ? Or doesn't that matter much ?

Maybe you want to know what does happen when you over heat you cappy.
I have accidently had a cappy 66 running with two pieces
of equipment above and below, which compleatly covered up
all the vents. The first I knew about it was when the memory
in one of the cards failed. I could see this when I rebooted
kyma (after it had crashed) by an error mesage saying that the memory
in the cards didn't match, and gave a list of 8 numbers showing which.
Once I had let it cool down again, it worked ok.
I don't know if this would happen on all cappy's, but I do not suggest trying it out.
