midibpm.kym

Here is a Sound that takes incoming MIDI timing clock and translates it into a controller called !BPM. If you have a Sound that depends on !BPM, you can put it into a Mixer with this new Sound and it should let you control the tempo from your sequencer or other source of MIDI timing clock.

Hi, I'm unable to import this sound or the phone example. Opening them in a text editor, it appears there's some text before the "BOSS" header. Removing this text still doesn't allow them to be opened. I'm on a Mac, using the latest software.

Help! I'm likewise having problems with the midibpm.kym file. I get the same error message. I'm running Windows 95.

Using Explorer on the Macintosh, I did the following: click on the question mark icon & hold down until the menu appears; select download link to disk. The file shows up on the desktop with the icon of a Kyma Sound file.
It should not be possible to open this as a text file. Does the file have a Kyma icon when you download it? Or is it being downloaded as a text file?

It's being d/l as a text file, as are all other examples. Most of them have imported fine, which makes this very strange indeed.

I'm using netscape, and have tried everything I can think of.

Just to join in: I´ve also tried downloading this file the usual way (Save link as... and then using Import in Kyma 5.08 (on Mac) before trying to open the Sound the usual way. I then get the "BOSS" error message.

I´ve downloaded many Sounds from this forum previously without any problems, so something seems wrong with this particular Sound.

It may be a problem with downloading as a text file. It quite obviously is being downloaded as text. See the log below if you don't believe me. That's because the MIME types on the server aren't set correctly. You can tell that anyway because clicking the link displays garbage in the browser.

However, I get exactly the same file out from both Windows and Linux. That suggests, if erroneous line feeds are being added, the server's doing it. It's nothing to do with the browsers.

Note the size of the file: 23668 characters. If that's slightly larger than the original, it means carriage returns are being added.

Ah, but it can't be that as there are no carriage return-line feed pairs in the file. There are a number of both characters. So I still don't know what's going on, but check the file size.

This problem has occurred before... All you have to do is use a good text editor like EMACS and remove everything from the front of the file up to (but not including) the bytes containing "BOSS 980000". (approx 260 bytes) Then it works fine!

Removing the text pre-header still does not fix the problem w/ this sound (at least on my computer).

Perhaps you could re-upload it zipped ?

Ok, got it to work !

I had to manually set the mime types for Kyma sound files in netscape>prefs>applications.

This wasn't possible to do after the fact, had to be done within NS.

The new quad timeline and most of the other sounds on the site did not require this. They would download as text, but no characters in the text would change and there was no problem importing them.
