![]() ![]() ![]() Sorry for the drastic word, but Iīm not native english and I donīt know any polite word with basically the same meaning. I really tried to be open to this new thing, but whenever I go there I get lost. I think itīs really cool if youīre just surfing around but speaking of myself I donīt follow threads anymore and I even donīt find them again once participated. Today I remembered I was writing there something few days ago but I completely forgot what kind of topic it was. In the "Whatīs new" section my entry was not listed for whatever reason and the search function also didnīt show me anything. I have the impression that the days of nice informal chats here are over. Or do I simply donīt find them anymore? Am I missing something? Actually I do think there is something really clever behind TWiki, but I donīt seem to get it. At least within the possibilities of my usual internet behaviour. I was used to look at this forum once a day for some minutes, looking for interesting threads and leaving again soon if there wasnīt anything worth spending more time. It was a quick habit. I donīt do this with Twiki anymore, since I know Iīll never see anything within a few minutes. Tt will always take longer time, so I simply donīt do it anymore at all. How are others feeling to that? Am I missing something? Bests, IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Chats and threads are appropriate to the forum. Please continue to use the forum for chatting or back and forth conversations. (Please do *not* use the tweaky for back-and-forth conversations) tweaky is a database for sharing Sounds (in Share section), searching for already-discovered workarounds or reporting bugs (Know), or asking questions of a How-to nature (How). The rule of thumb is, if it is a back and forth discussion or chat, it belongs on the forum. If it is piece of information (or a Sound) that other people would benefit from knowing about (such as a workaround for a bug, a time-saving tip, or a Sound) it belongs in the tweaky database where other people can find it using the Search. Rule of thumb: Links from forum to tweaky are also useful IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() I like tweaky even if English is not my native language. I see Tweaky as a "user" web site. It's cool beeing able to remove, edit and tweak the content of OUR site. I think it's a good formulae for a not too big comunitie like Kyma users. (I wouldn't see a Roland Tweaky...). I agree that tweaky is not good (and is not intended) for chat. Also, while improved since its debut, it's still hard to pin-point what is really new on tweaky. I think the "Don't notify" check box should be improved. Sometimes I have to remove irrelevant parts of my own post and I don't want other users to be misdirected to those "new" topics but edited page still appears in the what's new area. May be "don't notify" should apply to "what's new" too... Anyway, I spent SO much time trying to find sounds on this forum... It's not vrey efficient [This message has been edited by KX (edited 09 February 2004).] IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Hi Mathis The way I Look up new stuff on Tweaky is first press the login link and then login. If you don't twealy will hide most of the interesting stuff without telling you. Then go to the Whats New link. Sometimes If I don't see enough I set the "whats changed" back a few days to see the stuff I was interested in before and make sure I haven't missed anything. Then when I go to the page and I can't see whats different , I press the Diffs link at the bottom of the page and this tells me who what and when things have been changed. One thing that would be great in tweaky would be an automaticly generated Link list at the bottom of each page, of all the other pages that have links to it. This way the descusions page would have a link back to the download that is being descused, and going to David McClains user page would have links to all the wonderfull contibutions he's made. This might make navigation a bit easier. This may end up making very large lists so it would have to be the very very last thing on the page so that you wouldn't have to scroll below it to get to the Diffs link and the other important stuff. ![]() ![]() ![]() There is also the "Ref'd by" link at the top of each page (shows you all pages that refer to this one). To get links to everything you (or someone else) has written, try typing your WIKI name (first and last name with no space between) into the Search box and click Go. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Mathis, I agree. I have to learn (and remember) so much in Kyma, I donīt want to check out another manual to read in Twiki. These kind of platforms should be "idiot proof" as we say here. I wouldnīt want to read a manual before being able to use a phone book. Twiki isnīt intuitive at all. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() We have no plans to eliminate the tweaky *or* the forum (or email/telephone support for that matter), so please use whichever combination of those you find the most comfortable and beneficial. Using the tweaky is not compulsory; the only unavoidable use of the tweaky is as a substitute for the former updates/downloads page (in which case, it is virtually indistinguishable from the old way of doing things). Specific suggestions and ideas that might contribute to this work-in-progress are welcome (since the launch date, we have made numerous changes and improvements to the tweaky in response to specific suggestions). Generic complaints are harder to translate into actual code and put the programmers into a bad mood (a state unconducive to productivity) [This message has been edited by SSC (edited 09 February 2004).] IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() I actually was really thinking, that Twiki should take over also the conversation things. In terms of database functionality I do understand the benefits of Twiki. And the tips by pete and KX will certainly help. Iīm not sure if I personally "like" the separation of database and chat, but I understand the concept better now and will try to learn to deal with it. Hopefully I get used to it. No offense intended, just getting lost... So letīs liven up the forum again (which is actually already taking place). I felt like a dinosaur when I was posting here the last months. So I know now that I donīt have to. [This message has been edited by mathis (edited 10 February 2004).] IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() hmmm - just found a new link to TWiki, sorry, you have covered the suggestions I have below already. BTW what happened to the 8th Nerve emails? I haven't had any for ages - I ask because the TWiki notification I found in the forum, which I guess highlights the problem with many sources of information - I found the 8th Nerve to be a good central focus, which meant I didn't need to search other places to keep up to date. --- original message ----- [This message has been edited by garth paine (edited 13 February 2004).] [This message has been edited by garth paine (edited 13 February 2004).] IP: Logged |
