Well, everything I have put up is pretty obvious, but are all moments of interest from my journey so far.
http://www.symbolicsound.com/cgi-bin/bin/view/Learn/MakeItSo

Some topics that i hope will grow, I have started WikiWords pages for them.

Editing it is really easy, if you can learn kyma, you can learn how to edit the tweaky.

Rather than sharing sounds, samples or timelines, perhaps you might like to add a nugget of interest, and interesting expression, an avenue of exploration.

If you are rummaging though the forum, and you find a discussion you think is educational, inspirational or generally entertaining, consider adding it with a suitable title if one does not exist. If there are several categories you think are relevant, pop em in!

I still need to tidy up the links and condense them down to keywords. I also need to make sure existing discussions on the Share link to the relevant sounds etc

I guess the ultimate aim would be to have external links of an educational nature which will help arm the blossoming Kyma'ererer with the underlying principles. (well wikip n stuff)

Obviously it is not quite the labyrinth of inspiration, education, entertainment and wonder that I envisage yet. (That is where you come in!)

To quote Otis Clay - 'The only way is up.' I was going to atribute the 80's popstar Yazz, but I googled to make sure. That would of been embarrassing. Oh, but apparently was written by George Jackson and Johnny Henderson. Not sure who I should be thanking now....

ANYWAY.

Stop reading, Start Tweaking

Ok, I have a format and some noob tips coming along nicely.

For my master plan to really blossom, I need to do some crazy editing to the way the Tweaky Share Sounds works. The issue is that the whole way each section is based upon a TOC: which means that it is only possible to link to the overall share.

As a starting point, (http://www.symbolicsound.com/cgi-bin/bin/view/Share/Sounds) I would like to move each category (Batch Processing,Compressors and Limiters,Continuum,Control and Modulation and so forth) to their own pages. This at least would allow linking to each category.

For the well populated categories, I propose we sub-group the patches further either by type or author. (or a combination as appropriate) (Um, yeah, a bit later on perhaps)

This will make it easier to make bespoke links for both tweaky and forum, allowing easier posting and navigating.

It is all about a balance between scrolling and clicking you see.

Before proceed any further. I would like to know if you think my whole plan is ridiculous and I should go back to asking silly questions on the forum, or in-fact it is worth while, in that case, I require re-assurance that the Tweaky is backed up on a regular basis, and that if I manage to do something spectacularly stupid to it, it can be restored back to original glory.

In theory: Create a suitable WikiWord for each category required, copy all script for that category onto the page! ? (Pray the existing links and discussion links remain intact. )

No, I think you on the right track.

Btw, I think we are pretty old version of the twiki. I think in newer versions, there are features like tags that may helpful for organizing or finding information.

Ok kinda getting there after a sharp learning curve, apologies to anyone who caught it during the experimental phases. I did try to use the preview as often as I could.

Now I can post you direct links to sections such as this
http://www.symbolicsound.com/cgi-bin/bin/view/Share/SequencingSounds

I will keep grooming this, perhaps have the most populated sections at the top of the table.

or
http://www.symbolicsound.com/cgi-bin/bin/view/Share/EffectsProcessing

Which also needs more love, I think really it needs to be subdivided again or perhaps the sections linking to the main SoundShare.

If you have not visited this, please edit it and make it live up to its potential.

bugger.

I made a bunch of pages and copied the relevant data to the sections, yet the links don't work. I need to learn more about how the file linking works, I have backed up my progress locally until this can be resolved.

If someone can show me how to path the links properly, I don't mind doing the donkey work.

Night.

A slightly disheartened Charlie.

I thought this was going to be easy!

This is how it might look if I can get the links to work easily, is there no way all the files can be enabled down the tree?

Boo.

It looks like the links assume a relative path so if you change the page structure the link structure automatically changes.

Example:
for xyzfile.kym on the original page the link is: http://www.symbolicsound.com/zzz/pub/Share/Sounds/xzyfile.kym

When moved to the new page, the new relative path is: http://www.symbolicsound.com/zzz/pub/Share/CompressorsAndLimiters/xyzfile.kym

However, the file stays where it was first uploaded to and hence is broken with the new path.

Not sure how to automagically update the links. Here are the where most of the files are attached: http://www.symbolicsound.com/cgi-bin/bin/attach/Share/Sounds

Here is the overview on how to many attachments: http://www.symbolicsound.com/cgi-bin/bin/view/TWiki/FileAttachment

I only see a manual method of moving the files around via this method. The other alternative is to manually create new links to the old file locations. This actually may be faster since it would be a fairly easy cut and paste job rather than 4-5 clicks per file to move via the other method.

Ben.

Thank you for this.

I have been away from musical endeavour all summer but hope to be diving back in.

This information is hugely appreciated and hope to contribute myself.

Cheers,

Many thanks for doing this !

I think this is indeed a great way to keep things organised.
Well, your new wiki page is on my "daily browsing pages" now.

Cheers, Roman

I know it's a bit late, but Charlie I took a look at some of the pages and you really did a great job! Thanks a lot, the community needed a bit of a kick up the backside

I hope to contribute some stuff after the festive season.... make it so

Thanks! - it is great to know people are reading and enjoying.

I seem to add a couple of links a week at the moment, but really my focus is building up some momentum for a big edit of the share section, I have already created pages for each category, and a new master launch page
(here) http://www.symbolicsound.com/cgi-bin/bin/view/Share/SoundShareProposal

The only thing holding us up is the relocation of the actual patch files to their new homes, this will require a free evening and no interruptions from the missus. :-)

This will happen over christmas/new year. Ideas and suggestions for the new section (within the realms of tools available) are welcome.

I have not really change too much of the structure so far, however have taken a few liberties along the way.

One example is providing separation for and ability to link to; http://www.symbolicsound.com/cgi-bin/bin/view/Share/SynthesisSection
You are then presented with sub collections where appropriate. (the only files that work at the moment is TheKwerk)

FunFunFun

Charlie

I am transferring the Share.Sounds files to their new homes.

Starting at the top and working my way down.

There are no current issues.
Please stand by.

Happy Christmas BTW! :-) (oh the time of post is a little early, however is definitely Christmas here. )

BTW, it is possible to link to the Sounds without moving them. Here's how to link from a new page, back to a file attached in Sounds:

In the link, following %ATTACHURL%/

add

/../Sounds/

then the link as it was on the original page.

Here is an example file relinked in this way:

%ATTACHURL%/../Sounds/samplewithrandomfreqoneachloop.kym

That way you can refer to the Sound file elsewhere in the tweaky without having to move the files.

Ok, I am much happier with the layout and text.

I would like to see some form of Scripting Category! There are a couple of patches such as Carla's Sound Flow Generator
http://www.symbolicsound.com/cgi-bin/bin/view/Share/OtherSounds

and

Luddy's CapySequencer http://www.symbolicsound.com/cgi-bin/bin/view/Share/SequencingSounds

A few patches showing nuts'n'bolts basic concepts in scripting on Kyma would make a lovely addition
