Hi,

I would like to know if it is possible to use at the same time a MotorMix and a another MIDI controller, say a footcontroller? In such case, do we have to leave the setting in Preferences to MotorMix?

Many thanks
Alain

yes. leave the preference on motormix.

either merge the data via your midi interface or you can hook it up like this:

kyma out > midi interface > computer
computer > midi interface > foot contoller > motormix > kyma

the foot controller may actually be better after the motormix, but you'll have to play around and see. of course, you'll need the foot controller to be able to merge the data if you run it this way.

Thanks, Keph, that's a good news. The foot controller will be on stage and the Motormix and Kyma next to the console, off stage.

Using the merging function of the FC a possibility I see is

Kyma out > MM > FC > Kyma in

But then I would have to run midi cables to and back from stage, which is not so convenient in this case. So maybe the best is to to merge the signals from the FC and MM via a merge box close to Kyma, or using the computer's midi interface, as you said (which I don't use otherwise because that's all live, no sequences...)

Well, I'll know more after some experiments ;-)

Well, I've made test using this configuration

Kyma out > MM > FC > Kyma in

with the footcontroller (FC) merging the data coming from the MotorMix (MM).

So far, Kyma does not respond anymore to the FC when I switch the Preferences to MotorMix. On the other hand, with the Preferences set to "Other", it was still possible to use the MotorMix, though the parameters would not display anymore (instead, the "Welcome to Kyma X" is displayed). In this case I had to assign parameters in Kyma to CC0, CC1, etc on channel 1 for them to respond to Fader 1, 2, etc on MM.

Strangely, monitoring the midi data in Kyma was letting supposing it was receiving Sysex from the MM rather than standard CC values...

Talking about the midi monitor, I had many problems using it. Very often it was causing Kyma not to respond anymore to midi data. Kyma was not crashing evidently but each time I had to quit and restart Kyma to have it working normaly again. Is this a known bug?

I'm still wondering if there is a way to have the MM working normally (with Preferences set to MotoMix) and have Kyma responding to standard midi CC's at the same time?

did you map what you wanted the FC to control in the VCS or at the patch/sound level?

It seems better, when using the motormix, to map the paramaters to additional controllers (including midi-sequencers) at the VCS level rather than at the patch/sound level.

The MotorMix uses many different CC numbers to send its fader position and button state -- it uses nearly all of the available 1-128 range. If you would like to use the MotorMix and the foot controller together, I recommend changing the MIDI channel of the foot controller to any channel other than 1.
