Carl Malone (designer of the MotorMix and president of CM Labs) has offered some advice on MotorMix backlight problems: He says that it sounds like the LCD backlight cable contacts inside may be oxidized, and suggests that you could open it up and spray some contact cleaner on the backlight cable and wiggle it a bit.
