can't remember if we mentioned this before...

But its a great control interface... difficult to actually to buy - but awesome
www.monome.org

anybody using it with Kyma?

Again, I can see that the fact that Kyma VCS does not yet send out its current paremeter states over OSC/MIDI , then it might not be as useful as it could be to reflect changes in presets etc... same issue with the Lemur...

SSC,

are you considering implementing VCS echo/feedback over OSC/MIDI in an update, so that the new generation of controllers work better with Kyma?

It's something we've been thinking about, yes.

i have been using a 64 with kyma.. it is a wonderful companion recently, i've been using matthew davidson's wonderful 'polygome' app to control kyma and generate interesting rhythms and melodies. a lot of fun and very inspiring.

i just placed an order for a 256 on friday, so i am excited to get that up and running as well!

as for bidirectional feedback, you can "fake it" using kyma in motormix mode and max. i had been working on an 'automap' template for kyma and the lemur using a custom max patch which would decode kyma's sysex messages and reflect vcs changes on the lemur (and visa versa). i made good progress - text and fader control both work (although buggy!).. but time has not been on my side lately. with a few big projects wrapping up in the next week or so, i will hopefully have time to dig back in to this

cheers

Hey guys. New user here. first post. My pacarana is in the mail and should get it before the weekend.

I help develop an open source monome app called SevenUpLive. So I expect that I will be using the monome a lot with Kyma. I also have a Lemur.

Some examples.

I can't wait to use Kyma.

Yes, I have been thinking of purchasing one of these Monomes too....

Can they be set up easily as an interface to Kyma?

I just did this little noodle as a first try using my monome with Kyma. It doesn't go anywhere yet, but just messing around.

Controlling instrument in Kyma via midi (recorded the pattern) and also Sampled Kyma sounds in loops and reversed and sliced with the Looper sending to granular reverb in Kyma. Recorded one pass with all the warts and mistakes. Drums also programmed with the monome.

Here's a better example of Adam using it to reconstruct Tom Yorks Eraser. http://www.vimeo.com/1854975

The app I use SevenUpLive is essentially a monome interface to Ableton Live that gives you 7 screens of different apps.

Drum step pattern editor

Pattern sequencer - chain step patterns and save up to 7 chains of these

Melodizer 1 - keyboard (follows chosen scale) 7 recordable pattern slots and each slot can control a separate instrument.

Melodizer 2 - same as melodizer 1 - 7 more instruments OR can also be set to launch clips in Live

Looper - slice and reinterpret sample loops as well as sample hits

Loop Recorder - Record yourself slicing up Loops with 7 pattern slots.

Controller - Pages of sliders for controlling effects through midi mapping, etc...

Masterizer - Control the entire set from here across all screens.

7up is only one app of course and it's highly integrated with Ableton Live which can in turn control Kyma. There are plenty of others, and ones that do not require using Ableton Live.

Integration with Kyma would be primarily through midi. A lot of monome apps are written in MAX/MSP which interfaces well with Kyma so seems like there is plenty of potential for doing cool stuff.

monome.org is the place to learn about it.

Let me know if I can answer any questions.

Thanks for this.

It all looks good, though, personally, my main interest is trying to compose entirely within the Kyma environment - which is sometimes a bit of a challenge!

On this note, I guess it must also be possible to use the Monome directly with Kyma via Camille's OSCulator, although I guess (as indicated by Christian above) that two-way communication with the Kyma VCS is probably still not yet possible...

Monome's can be set to simply send midi per button. There are also some interesting apps that send midi as well such as Polygome.

Midi would be the easiest integration. You may have to run MAX runtime but it's free.
