Happy new year everyone! 2007 began on a very good note. I just managed a small Kyma setup in my bedroom; no more unproductive insomnias!! What is the right formula to calculate the freq resolution of a FFT? What I have in mind is SR/FFT lenght/2 but I'm sure I'm wrong...as I'm always wrong even with the simpliest maths! Thanks Karl IP: Logged |

Mmmh, I may be wrong, but I think it is just Fs/N, meaning: "Sample Rate" / "FFT Size"

I divided by 2 because of nyquist... IP: Logged |

SampleRate / FFTLength You are correct about the half sample rate. The FFT produces a spectrum that has both positive and negative frequencies (which are symmetrical, in a way), so only half of the points are unique. But those points describe the spectrum from DC to the half sample rate. This means you have (SampleRate / 2) / (FFTLength / 2) which is the same as the first line here. IP: Logged |
