Hi,
Is anyone successfully using a PC (Athlon K7 w/GA-7IXE mobo in my case) with PCI-based Capybara and also a live SoundBlaster Platinum PCI card simultaneously?
My system locks up unless I disable the SoundBlaster. This is too bad, but not the end of the world. However, if others have this working, maybe there is hope if I one day upgrade to a different motherboard/PC system.

Some versions of the SoundBlaster card are based on the same controller chip as the Capybara PCI card. They did not anticipate this situation, so some versions of their drivers don't check whether the card they are talking to is a SoundBlaster or not. In other words, their drivers write to the Capybara PCI card and everyone gets very confused on the bus.
We recommend that you check the CreativeLabs website to see if they have some newer drivers.

I think this is what was freezing my system as well. I shouldnt have ever bought a SB card in the first place. If the kyma could be used as a sound card I would sell my SB card on ebay asap. I updated the drivers and uninstalled a bunch of useless apps that came on my pc and it runs fine now. At least, so far. Thanks alot SS for all of your help. (Ive never seen a company be so good to their customers)

If there is anyone using a SoundBlaster card in a PC and is still having problems with Kyma, could you please check into the following and let us know if this helps/hurts?

==============================================

1. Use sysedit (you can run this using the Run item in the Start menu) to edit autoexec.bat.

2. Look for a line that ends with SBEINIT.COM. On the system I just looked at it was:

C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\SBLIVE\DOSDRV\SBEINIT.COM

3. Add REM followed by a space to the beginning of the line:

REM C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\SBLIVE\DOSDRV\SBEINIT.COM

On the system we were working with here, the computer would get stuck in the start up of Windows. After we made this change, the computer could start up, we could use the SoundBlaster, and we could use Kyma.

What this change does is remove DOS driver support for the SoundBlaster, and so will make any DOS-based sound applications stop working. However, I would guess that not many people are using DOS-based sound applications any more.
