i realized today, in working on the sounds for my live set, that i'd love to see some sort of Timer module in Kyma... something that could count down (or up) and let you know how much time is left on any particular sample or disk file that's playing within your sound. so, for example, in the VCS you could have some controls related to a particular sample that's playing, and also a little window readout counting down the time remaining in the sample... it could even cycle the timer if the sample is looping..

i supposed the timeline gives some sort of temporal readout, but i'd like to see something in the sound level and on the VCS, would be enormously helpful for improvisation, to know how much time was left in a particular sample.

maybe this isn't possible.. but, it's just a wish/suggestion.. thanks for listening!

You could mix in a silent SoundToGlobalController (pass a SoundToGlobalController through an Attenuator with Left and Right set to zero). In the value field, paste in a FunctionGenerator that is triggered at the same time as the Sample and has the same duration. Use Ramp as the waveform for the FunctionGenerator and check Reverse. The result will be a fader in the VCS that falls from one down to zero over the same duration as the Sample.

There is an example of something like this in one of the live sampling Sounds in the Sound Library.

thanks.. that, of course, worked! i've seen sliders have this behavior in some preset sounds, ... i also scaled my slider to display units as the number of seconds in my sample...

unfortunately, i'm not sure WHY this works, as i don't fully understand the SoundToGlobal or FunctionGenerator prototypes, but, i'll learn..

thanks again
