Is there a way to load an AKAI S1000 keymap into Kyma. If not is there a published format for a Kyma sample keymap avilable.

Has anyone else tried this with AKAI or other sampler keymap format?

We can take a look at adding support for this in Kyma if you can send us the relavant documention on the Akai file format.

I strongly second the demand for importing sampler file formats, especially S1000 format programs (not only keygroups).
The problem is that these formats are not documented in the public domain. All conversion tools I'm aware of are 'hacking' these formats to achieve conversions.
I use CDXtract (http://www.cdxtract.com/) to convert between my different sampling systems (EMU, AKAI, Gigasampler) and except that not all directions are possible it is an unvaluable tool for me.
Bernard Chavonnet (support@cdxtract.com)is very open for new ideas. The idea I just have is to ask him to work on a sort of special edition like he did for Nemesys (Gigasampler). If there is enough interest SSC could just email him the necessary informations to include this into his CDXtract. If he don't has to 'hack' the format I don't expect much work for him.
I would gladly contact Bernard concerning this issue.

Dear SSC or C&K,

I requested for this feature, even before I bought my Capybara! You also sended me on a quest for the format!

I also contacted Bernard that time (+/- 2 year ago!). I also got the impression this guy is a guru like us kyma freaks! So do make contact with this person!!!!! I would be willing to pay for such an effort!

Because of the discussions I had with Bernard, I also suggested Kyma should support SoundFont format! I sended you the info on this format, I suggested in helping you to write the C-code for it! His CDxtract tool can now convert to SoundFont format(2 years ago he thought about making it). The SoundFontFormat is OPEN and contains much more info about the patch (good simple example = loop points!) Oke maybe SoundFont is a bit complicated format, but you could invent some simple wave/aiff chunks yourself to contain all these parameters and make a patch for an sampler imported sound. Would be very nice to have.

Dear Chuck,
For now,I can only suggest get GigaSampler or CDxtract.

I think Kyma does not have a sample keymap format as you call it. The KeyMappedMultisample (KMMs) module you are refering to eats wave(or aiff) files. With a good AKAI-to-wave converter(see above) keyrange + pitch information is stored within a chunk(Kurt how is this chunk called again?) of the wave file. So if you would have a drumkit in akai format (first of all you should share that with me ) the converter will make a bunch of wave files with their own keyranges and pitchinfo.
When you now use the kyma KMMs module it will place the samples/wave files on the correct keys with the correct pitch. And you are done. Also programs like SoundForge allow you to set the basepitch and the keyrange of any wavefile, in this way you can create your own drumkits or multisamples!

SSC,

So what's the status on this?

Do you have enough information to get the format?

If so, is this a feature you are going to make available for Kyma?

This brings up another issue. Is there any way for us end-users to get a list of which features have been accepted and scheduled for release?

We are open to supporting this format, but so far we do not have the AKAI file format spec.
